New s550 guy here ready to race!

Hello everyone. I am on my second mustang and decided to throw in and register to a mustang forum for the first time. I've owned a 2007 GT and now own a 2016 GT with a Performance Package.

Must say so far, the difference between these cars is night and day. My 2007 was supercharged and was only putting down numbers equitable to the naturally aspirated Coyote I have now. Although it did weigh in about 300 lbs less. :(

But no worries, I'm here to start on a fresh new platform and I'm really excited to get into track racing this year. Hoping to see some good things from the IRS, since I've never been much of a drag racing fan.

I will be looking around the forum for help from other amateur track mustang racers, but if I can't find anything, would much appreciate any info on track mustang forums that anyone can provide.

Thanks for reading and see you in the forums!

Just wanted to provide a little info. The live axle in your 07 is actually preferred for drag racing where the IRS in your current 2016 is preferred for road course/curvy tracks.

However the IRS will do just fine for the average racer and unless pro nobody will notice a big difference.
@MustangLife

This year will be my first year track racing, although I have followed it a bit for the last couple years. I was hoping to hold out for the IRS system on the new models before throwing too much money into suspension setups for a live axle on the track. Though, like you said, IRS is probably not a requirement for track racing unless you're a pro, but the extra power the Coyote puts out was also a small added bonus. I do know people track race with live axles and make it work, so I'm not trying to bust that approach up too much.

Thanks for responding and "breaking" in my first forum post. :)

You can drag race or track race with both a live or IRS. Just Drag racing live is better and track racing IRS is better.

Purchased a very nice 2006 GT last September and enjoying the heck out of it, but every time I read a thread like this I get depressed with the same feeling I got from my first wife, UNDERPOWERED!:crying:
