Hey guys, I have owned about 15 5.0 Fox stangs but purchased my very first 1996 GT 4.6 this past Saturday. It's stock other than no cats, x pipe, flows, and a cai. I'm not sure what the stock gear ratio is but it seems to leave a lot to be desired. I' thinking about a set of 3.73's as these were my favorites with my other Mustangs. Also, I'm considering under drive pulleys, headers, better coils, and a tuner. I'd be very grateful for your thought and advice. :worship

I would consider 4.10's just MHO. The 4.6 motors make there power later in the rpm's than the 5.0's so a little lower gear helps them get there. That's all you on gears tho. There should be a tag on the rear end with the gear ratio. Not saying that's what is actually in it tho. If it was me I would scratch the under drive pulleys and for dang sure the coil packs. I saw no improvments when I put MSD coil packs on my 98. Headers that's up to you but my money would go somewhere else.

Now this is just my opinion-
Tuner/gear combo from AmericanMuscle is a for sure, gear install kit, trac loc rebuild kit, short throw shifter, full tune up, oil/filter change, tranny fluid change, clean throttle body and components attatched, full length subframe connectors, upper/lower control arms, good set of lowering springs with caster camber plates, PI intake, PI head/cam swap.

That's where I would start honestly. I think the headers to me are not worth the time and money vs the other mods I listed that could add up to the price of them plus the UD pulleys. I'm sure some other people will chime in but we all have opinions and this is your car and money. Good Luck and welcome to the 4.6 world :bigthumbsup

Do some reading before you start buying anything. First things to do are gears and subframe connectors, those 2 are a must... beyond that, educate yourself on the options, form a plan, and then go for it.

Welcome to the 4.6 world, You'll love that motor! They are a great improvement over the older 5.0s and definitely react well to modification.

I agree with what all these guys said, a set of gears, subframe connectors and a tune will give you some pretty significant gains! This is a very opinionated question. Explore the forums and do some searches to figure out what set up best fits your driving habits!

Hit me up if you have any questions, need some assistance or just want to chat!

Okay guys, I'm picking up my 4.10's Saturday. I'm checking out several different sub frame connectors for my next mod. I have 2 chamber flows and there's just not enough rumble to it. My last Fox was a 347 with SLP loudmouths and I'm thinking of going to SLP's on this car. I greatly appreciate all of your help and advice and anymore that you want to share. I am excited about the 4.6 and "making" it my own. Thanks again you guys rock! :bigthumbsup

Awesome first mod! 4.10s will really bring your Pony to life. As far as mufflers go, this is a very opinionated question. I love SLP exhaust systems, I have the SLP LM2 on my 04 Mach1 and it sounds wicked!

Best of luck with your build and let me know if you ever have any questions, need some assistance or just want to chat!

A hand held tuner from Bama would make those gears even sicker. Just my opinion and if you have the funds. Also don't forget the rebuild kit and trac-loc rebuild kit for the gears.

Becarefull with the tuners. They advertise more gains then they really give you. The canned tunes they come with are a min. gain at best.
My buddy dino tested his mustang and tried all the tunes.
They didn;t do much.
I have the sct tunes, and mine will ping like crazy, so I don;t use the tunes.
I wish I could get my money back and use it for something else.
Just my opinion.

Just wondering how much of a gain did you see from the sct tuner. On my 97gt, I have gains of 18rwhp and 23rwtq from sct canned tune 91r from bama. But I did have the supporting mods down below. The improved throttle response, and improved sound of the car, were more than welcome imo. Oh, an it also gave my auto trany a kick in the butt.
