Hello all!

I am the owner of a 2007 v6 mustang. I have a Question!

I really love the BBK cold air intake and wanting to buy it. Is there any real benefits with the v6 stang? I don't want to buy the throttle body as well, so will I even feel the difference? I also don't expect to have to tune it, as American muscle has CAIs that don't require any tuning.

Thanks! I'm excited to be here!! :bounce2:

Welcome to AFM.
No tune or supporting mods
I think you should save your money on that CAI - use it for another mod on your list. I think you'll be disappointed on CAI alone
What about with a BAMA tune and TB? in the future of course...
Some people really feel that a CAI has an effect. Placebo? haha

What would your recommended Mods be? I have only made superficial modifications (Raxiom lighting, etc), and I am fairly new to working on modern vehicles. :)

CAI without a tune IMO - you'll dress up the engine bay( looks nice) and u get some sound- but if you were looking for real butt dyno difference then --- no .
Alot of us go the CAI and tune route- definitely some gains.

plan out your mods- check out other members threads/ sigs- which show their mods. their opionions ( if they thought it was worth it)
- what u want - power/ speed
- looks ( dropped with rims tires)

lots of ways /routes to go. That's why this site is great- plenty of helpful members have posted their builds/mods. Read up- i think mods get upset or alittle annoyed of common " what to do ? what to mod on my car? lol - its probably been posted
I only mention have a plan first because if u r on a budget for mods- I try anyway to maximize where that limited money is going to go-
I just think that CAI alone by itself is not maximizing my mod money.
for example- CAI here in Canada- lets say $400 ballpark- hell I could have saved that for a Barton short shifter which IMO offers me for gain then a CAI.

Other members will chine in soon

If I were to get it tuned, would I have to get a tuner (like a BAMA) or could I pay a dealership to do it for me?
yes. check out the sponsors here i.e. brenspeed, american muscle , late model etc- there are many others as well- they have a combo ( tuner + CAI) that will suit your needs.
the tuner can have 3 tunes preloaded- just go through the process when ordering i.e. questions. vehicle/octane etc.
not sure if u have any mechanical but its pretty straight forward and not too difficult to install CAI and load tunes. - I don't think i'd get the dealer to do it- not sure about in your area but dealers down here charge a lot!!

shop around- check your local tuner shops- even try to find any members in your area that can suggest places to go/prices.

if u have your mind set on it then go ahead and purchase that CAI that doesn't require tune then when u have more money get the tuner to go along with it later- I was just saying that don't expect massive gains on CAI alone u will be disappointed JMO.

My first mod was the BBK cold air intake. The gains weren't as good as when I finally got my tuner, but I did feel a little difference over being stock. It's not going to be enough that you'll be like "wow that's amazing" like you get with a custom tune, but you'll notice a slight improvement. The tuner is really where you're going to get noticeable gains in power.

Welcome to AFM! Post up some pictures of your 2007 V6. We'd love to check it out!

The BBK Intake will definitely do the trick for you. It's worth buying for sure. You'll notice gains in power, torque, throttle response, engine noise and much more. If you do decide to go with a tune, those gains will also be more beneficial!

You'll meet a lot of great people on this forum. Get out there and enjoy it! You can also feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

I think you need to ask yourself what your goal really is first of all, I made this mistake just recently. I bought a JLT CAI for my 12 V6 when I really shouldn't have as I bought an extended warranty through the dealer. So I never really used it after thinking about it.

Not to say it is a mistake for YOU to get a CAI, but are you planning to go forced induction later? If so no point in getting a CAI. IMO you will much happier with a tune over a CAI, however that presents its own issues as well. But im assuming youre no longer under warranty, so the issue isnt as big.

Overall you need a plan. An end goal, and then add mods. But if you just want a little extra pickup/throttle response then a CAI is a good way to go.

Even though they advertise no tune needed on their CAI if you go that route you should get a tune for it. The reason is the stock tune is for the stock intake and even though the mod won't be dramatic enough to throw a code, the increased airflow will be just enough that over time the leaner mix can cause damage to your engine. A tune will ensure the proper mix happens. That said think hard about doing this mod. CIAs use filters that have to be oiled when cleaned and if you use too much, the oil will mess up the mass flow air sensor as well as other intake components. Do some internet research as there is many videos where people dyno this mod and there is little if any increase in performance, none that would be felt in driving anyway. To me there isn't enough to justify the cost of this mod and the extra care that is needed in maintaining the filter. Engineers are pretty spot on with setting up modern cars to get the most HP and all these bolt-on mods really do little to add to that. Good luck!!!

Shocks and Struts

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this Forum. Proud owner of a 2006 V6 Convertible, 100% stock so far. Car has 35,000 miles, bought it last year from a woman who lived on a dirt road. Car is ready for new rubber and I was thinking about shocks and struts.....a few rattles. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
