No oil pressure

Hello everyone I have a 1992 mustang GT and I'm getting no oil pressure I already replaced the pick up tube and the oil pump I primed the pump as well in car and I gave the car a oil change with new filter and the reason I did all this is because I was driving one night and noticed that my oil pressure dropped to 0 and I immediately pulled over and shut down the engine because I started hearing chatter from the upper half so I eventually limped the car home and I started the
car the next morning and I had good oil pressure but after about 3 minutes it dropped all the way to 0 and the chatter started again I'd appreciate any input thank you

How are you measuring the oil pressure? If you replaced the parts responsible for moving oil correctly, its time to investigate your measuring tools for failure.
I would remove the valve covers to verify you have oil draining back to oil pan. The chatter noise is a good indicator along with no oil pressure you have an issue somewhere.

ok im going to pull off the valve covers today and prime again to see if it's getting oil up there but I really don't think nothing getting up there

Hello thank you for your response I am measuring the oil pressure with an oil pressure gauge I screwed it into where the oil sending unit goes and I also noticed you said installed correctly please let me know if it can be installed wrong because it seemed pretty straight forward everything only went to where it matched up gaskets and all so please let me know if im missing something because I'm so stumped right now I had oil pressure but it would dip in and out as I stated in my initial post for help but now nothing no pressure at all

So, as I understand it, you lost oil pressure before you changed the pump and pickup tube. After changing the pump and tube, you still had the same problem. IIWM, I'd pull the valve covers and manually prime the pump again to verify no oil pressure to the rockers. If that's the case, out comes the motor. There has to be some kind of internal restriction.

May want to verify there is no blockage at the oil filter. Make sure there is no debris on the supply and return side of block where filter attaches.

Ok got the valve covers

I'm going to pull off the valve covers I was going to do it today but it's raining bad outside so next clear day ill pull them thank you for your reply

Thank you for your reply im going to remove the oil filter and check that as well on the next day we don't get tons of rain

was mainly concerned if you were using the factory gauge or had and aftermarket gauge plumbed correctly (no leaks, no kinked lines etc). Sounds like you have it setup correctly.

Oh okay thank you for your reply im going to do more checking once the weather let's up I'll post whatever I find
If you have oil pressure upon cold startup and it drops off as the engine warms up then I think that you most likely have worn crank bearings. I had a 1988 5.0 that this exact scenario happened to.

This is my thought too, reading through the posts. The main bearing clearances provide most of the resistance to oil flow and therefore are the main factor for good oil pressure.

A couple questions though. How many miles on the engine and what viscosity oil are you using?

Hello thank you for your reply I did have good oil pressure upon start up then it dropped to 0 after it warmed up but now since iv changed the oil pump and pickup tube I'm getting 0 oil pressure all the time that's what's got me confused 😕

Hello thank you for your reply im not sure on the milage because the cluster wasn't working when I purchased the car it was sitting for about 15 years in a garage but the odometer says 89,000 and i am the 3rd owner and I'm using 10-30 oil with 1 Lucas oil stabilizer
Hello thank you for your reply I primed the oil pump in the car I went counter clockwise and spun the crankshaft bye hand for quite a while and still no oil pressure its actually really weird because before I changed the old pump it would build pressure for a while before it dropped so I'm kinda lost

Remove oil filter and prime again to see will show itself at housing.

Thank you for your reply I will try that but I'm so frustrated with this iv already started the process of getting ready to pull the engine and install my other engine that I know is good to go I will most definitely post what I find out once I get the engine pulled and on the stand I greatly appreciate all the suggestions everyone has been great thank you all I will give and update soon

Is there a pressure relief valve in that engine which could have failed open?
