No skip shift on my car...

So maybe this has been discussed or even beat to death. If so, I missed it. Suffice it to say, my 5.0 doesn't have skip shift at all. I have driven every possible way I can think of...slow, fast, moderate...and never does it enforce a skip shift to 4th. Anyone know if that feature/function is missing on Brembo cars? All I can think of...

I've only run into it twice, since receiving my Brembo equipped GT. Once was after a extended crawl in first, followed by a right turn into moving traffic. I pulled for second, but ended up in fourth. Before that happened, the car could not be made to skip shift, so when it finally happened, I almost thought it was my fault.
The other time was a right on red. We crawled up to the light in first. The traffic cleared the intersection, and off I went...first to fourth, but that time I knew it wasn't me.
Personally, The skip shift doesn't bother me, but if an inexpensive cure comes along, I'll probably buy it.

your car has it, you just haven't hit the right conditions to activate it. it took me several days of trying different things to get it to come on in my car (3.73 gear ratio bumps up the rpm that causes it to activate) let's just say the skip-shift on the mustang is extremely unintrusive compared to other cars that have it.

Ok, good to know. Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
Will it give you a signal when its activated?? Does it lock out 3rd and just force you to go straight to 4th?? I just crossed 500 miles on my GT and have yet to skip a gear.
The parameters needed to activate it seem obscure and unnatural. I've only hit it once. Seems like you won't really use it drive normally. It's way better than GM's system.
Actually my gt did it lastnight. thought i screwed something up then realized what it just did. I was going from 2nd to 3rd and it would not let me goto 3rd gear. 550 miles on the car.

It will tell you. Watch the info screen in the dash, you will see

...1--->4 shift
for fuel economy

Thanks, I'll keep my eye out for it. Maybe my right foot has been too heavy to trigger it

Just accelerate slowly in first. Once the RPM's get up in the 3k range, you will see that message pop up. It seems like you can push through the skip shift also, its more of a "suggestion".

Are you sure it wasn't just a tranny glitch? I was under the impression that "skip shift" could only be activated in first gear, forcing you to go to fourth, and the system doesn't apply if you're already in second. Did your "skip shift" indicator come on?

I induced skip shift on my own when I shifted from 1st to 4th because of the close gates:yelwacko: I have yet to experience it and I feel like It's not even there on my car aswell.
I swear I don't have skip shift

Ok, here's my problem (actually a lack thereof). When I ordered my '11 Kona Blue GT (Brembos, 3.73s, manual, everything but glass roof) I heard that Ford put skip shift on the '11s. I wasn't happy. Well after the first day of driving and never having it kick in, I read the manual from cover to cover. It says that it should kick in around 17mph in first during light throttle. I have tried it a million times, and here's what happens. I slowly accelerate to 17-20mph, and the second I hit the clutch, the "shift 1->4 for fuel eco" message pops up, BUT it STILL lets me go smoothly into second, or third. Trust me I try it every time I drive my car (which now has 9,000 miles on it), and despite the skip shift message popping up every single time, it has NEVER locked out 2nd gear. WTF?! Did anyone else get this lucky? Btw, the car has no tune, just BMR springs, and Magnaflow Street axle-backs.

You are probably shifting very slowly while you are looking for it. That will make the rpm's drop to much and then the skip shift will not activate. there is a very small window for it to work. It bothered me the most was when in a line of cars going to make a left turn. But I had the 3.31's.

Not an issue for me now as it is gone and I have 4.10's:shigrin

4.10'S!!:woohoo:That car has to be a rocket now!
How is daily driving?

Great actually better than before. I commute 80 miles a day in and out of the city with lots of traffic.

More shifting if you use 1st gear like I do. But you could easily never use 1st and always start in second.

So much more fun.:racer:

it's more of a suggestion for better fuel efficiency. you can still go right into second. i do it all the time.
The message on the dash doesn't always show up when the skip shift activates because I always watch for it. a couple times it's gone right to 4th on me without the message popping up. Anyone know if sport mode deactivates it?
I'm starting to think this is the deal. I bet Ford got some kind of federal "economy" credit or something for putting skip-shift on the Mustang. However, they likely knew from the older Gaymaros that EVERYONE on the planet HATES skip-shift. I'm guessing they made skip-shift just intrusive enough to be able to qualify for this hypothesized credit, while making sure it was as transparent as possible. Basically, they made the car to where it "has skip-shift", but not really. You have to do everything just right in order to activate it. Get the money, and not piss off the customers, brilliant. Unless I'm totally wrong.
