I've had noises in the trunk of my 2007 for quite a while now. When I hit a rut in the road or a small pot hole a get this clunking noise. There is nothing in my trunk except the goop and the air compressor which is located where the spare tire should be. I did notice when I take out the carpeting to get to the spare location that the bolt which holds down the aircompressor seems to be hitting the wood on the bottom of the carpet. So I'm wondering if as I hit a hole or rut if that carpet with the wood which is attached to it, is jumping up and down and hitting that bolt causing the noise in the trunk. Does anyone else experience this problem and more importantly does anyone have any solutions for this problem.

I would almost guarantee that it's your overaxle pipes hitting either the spare tire well, panhard brace or axle housing. You can adjust clearance by loosening the pipes at the H and rotating until you gain the needed clearance. Must be done with suspension loaded. You can reach the H clamps on your back without jacking the car. Helps if you have a friend to hold the mufflers in place when you tighten things back down.

Thanks I'll give that a try.

I just had it in the shop they told me that one of the Mufflers(SSS Terminators) Mounting arms was hitting some bolt so they just cut the remainder of the arm off and that stopped that problem. In addition I just had a panhard bar installed and the piping was hitting the bracketing of the bar a small adjustment like stlwagon recommended was all that was needed, thanks.
