For those that have been following my 331 build over the last year or so you know it's been a HUGE pain in my but, and my wallet. Here's a little history. Long story short, never get anything from DSS.

Well I think the 18th times's a charm, ha. I sent the short block to a "trusted" machine shop in Woodbridge, VA and had them go over everything. Turns out, after having DSS balance the rotating assembly, it was STILL 49 grams off. Are you kidding me!!! So I had them re-balance everything, with the clutch installed and I get the short block back this Tuesday or Wednesday if everything goes as planned.

So what have I been up to in the mean time? I finally decided to just get the parts the car has always needed and hope for the best. I ordered a bunch of stuff from latemodel and I've been super busy painting the engine bay and installing new parts.

I just got the bay finished and the MSD ignition all ready to go. Now all I need is the block and I'll be on my way to a healthy 331 pony again. Check back later as I'll be posting pic's of the build after Wednesday.

Here's a few pic's of what the bay looked like before.

Looking good and I feel your pain with the short block woes.....

I had a problem with my 347 crank from Eagle in which the backside was 0.13 too small and my rear main seal kept leaking. All they could muster up as a response was...."send it back to us and we will check it out and if there is a problem we will fix it". I guess they think time, labor for balancing, seals and gaskets are free. I swore I would never endorse their product and they did nothing for me.

Sorry for the rant but the car is looking killer and loved the back half with the monster meats.

Thanks, I can't wait to get the short block back. I'm suppose to have it tomorrow night. Then it's "Let the games begin!"

What kind of paint did you use for the bay? it looks friggin sweet. i've been debating on whether or not i should go black, because it reminds me of the real old school cars, but i doubt my painting abilities. sorry, i digress, i want my bay to look like yours, so if you could tell me what paint you used as well as any tips/tricks you used, that would be awesome. thanks man

I used Rustoleum spray paint. I've had really good luck with it in the past. Nothing flakes off and that particular brand of paint has a primer built into it. Only real advice I can give ya is to simply take your time. I spent the better part of 2 weeks just cleaning, sanding and prepping the bay.

+1 to that?! And yeah this is pretty much my exact build except I used a GT40 and stage 2 cam. Even the suspensions pretty much the same! Oh and Ive been having about as much trouble as you haha.

Why didn't you use studs?

And I know how your feeling. I should be finished tuning my junk hopefully this weekend as I got side tracked with too much work (the real kind that you get paid for).

Got the short block done this morning, or as much as I was able to get done. Now I'm just waiting for my ARP studs.
