Well, I told myself I would never end up posting in this section of the board because I just don’t street race with my car at all. That’s not why I bought my 2006 Mustang GT … honestly I just bought it because I enjoy Mustangs and I needed to spoil myself after owning a 1997 Mercury Tracer for 8 yrs. I needed something for myself I could be proud of with no intentions of racing anyone. In fact I made a promise to myself as I drove off the dealers lot that I would do my best to resist street racing … I really don’t have anything to prove to anyone.
When I can’t sleep at night I like taking the ‘Stang out for a spin … 2am, 3am, it doesn’t really matter. It’s something that relaxes me. It’s 1:30am and I can’t sleep, I take the ‘Stang out for a quick spin … I see like maybe 2-3 other cars on the road but it’s pretty empty for the most part. All of a sudden behind me, out of no where this car comes up on my rear end going 2x-3x my speed and gets RIGHT on my tail, he switches on his brights and then squeals his tires as he pulls up beside me. Now, I’m not the type of car enthusiast that can spot and recognize any car I see by sight but I know a Newer Cobra when I see 1. This guy rev’s his engine at me and flips me off as he’s hanging over his car door at me yelling something I can’t for the life of me understand. I switch off my radio and roll down the window. This guy next to me in the Cobra throws an empty soda can at my car and it hits the front end and bounces off … then he starts yelling and jerking his wheel towards my car like he’s going to hit me. At this point my mind is racing and my hands are shaking from the adrenaline. I’ve never raced anyone or been taunted into racing before … even though I promised myself no racing, roadrage kicked in and I hit my steering wheel with my hand and started yelling back at him.
We stopped at the next red light both rev’ing our engines and cursing out the window at each other flipping each other off. Oooh my gosh I was livid at that point … I was so pissed I couldn’t barely see straight. I quickly scanned around my environment for cops because I’ve never been in this situation before so I was nervous as heck. I glance back at this guy still yelling at me from his Cobra and he hasn’t taken his eyes off me … think he’s in love or something … some kind of freak. I just want out of this situation at all cost at this point. I start looking around again and I spot a single, lonely car sitting in the empty parking lot across the street we’re about to race down. Holy crap it’s a cop car … I squint my eyes to try and make it out and he’s sitting there staring at us both. My heart sinks and my first instinct is to lean over and tell this guy there’s a cop in that parking lot to get him to leave you alone. A huge smile comes across my face as I glance back at this guy in the Cobra next to me … he’s still sitting there rev’ing his engine staring right at me, spit hanging from his bottom lip as he leans over his car door.
The light turns green and I step on the gas lightly … closely watching my speed and the Cobra’s wheels scream to life as he roars through the intersection shifting gears. This idiot buzzes past this cop and of course his lights go on and the guy pulls over with the cop right behind him. I make a U-turn and make a quick right to get the heck out of there as I look back at the cop. My hands and kneels both shaking from the adrenaline as I drive home. Now … I promised I wouldn’t street race with my car and I haven’t broken my promise yet. I got close … damn close but I didn’t break the promise. I had no idea when I bought this car that I would attract this kind of attention. I was thinking of putting racing stripes on my car and have already ordered them. I think the racing stripes will sit in my garage for a while if this is the kind of crowd it’s going to attract. Oh my gawd that was insane. I’ve never been through anything like that before. Like I said I went from a 1997 Mercury Tracer to a 2006 Ford Mustang GT and I guess I wasn’t ready for what was to come as a result. Yeah, that shook me up just a bit but I’m getting used to the attention. Slowly.
Not really a kill story but it was my first and closest experience to 1 so I thought I would share. Not exactly sure what happened to the angry guy in the nice looking Cobra but my guess is he’s paying off a ticket.
