Oil issues on 2012 5.0

Hi All,

Was reading on another forum about the oil level not being fully filled from the factory.
So I checked my oil level - 1500 miles on my Mustang and found that the oil didn't even register on the dipstick! I needed to put 5 QUARTS - OMG-WTF! into the car to get the oil level to the proper level on the dipstick!

Now 5 quarts missing after 1500 miles would mean I am losing 1 quart for every 300 miles. If I was burning that much oil I would expect to see a blue cloud every where I go, but there is no sign of that.
No sign of oil burn. That says to me that my car was woefully underfilled from the factory and the dealer didn't check the oil level when they got it.

I hope my motor isn't FUBAR because of this F-U. It sounds happy now that I have added the oil myself.

I suggest all of you with a new Mustang check your oil level now!

That sucks. I hope nothing got screwed up.
I checked my oil level the first day I got my car & check it every week.
5 quarts? It's hard to believe the oil could even be that low. Seem the oil guage/light would dip every time you took a sharp corner. Im assuming the oil was checked on level ground w/ a cool engine? Not to be a smartass, but 5qts is a hellofalot.

EDIT - If 5qts truly was added, Id take the car to the dealer and bring up the problem, if for no other reason than to have documention that this occured incase of problems down the road.

Its a miracle if your engine lasted 1500 miles on 5 quarts low.
I cant believe you didn't check earlier, this has been talk about
on here for a while.I would take it back for a new one, there is no way that can be good.
Wow this is unacceptable from the dealer.I posted warnings about this a year ago when I got my car.

I checked my oil within the first 100 miles or so and it was about 2qts low so I added oil.I know during break in of a new engine some oil burning is normal but not that much.

This engine is tricky when it comes to reading the dipstick.
When I did my first oil change it took only 6qts after all oil was drained and I was like WTF

after about 20 min it took the other 2qts and showed full on the dipstick. It also showed full with 6qts

I would say check the oil on any new 5.0 before taking delivery. If you get a oil change make sure they use a total of 8qts with filter not 5-6 etc

After that first 2 quarts did you have to add any more before your first change ?

Being 5 quarts low that engine should of been smoking and knocking .I'm suprised it didn't seize up .
Not to sound like a **** but are you sure you are reading that stick right ? Burning a quart every 300 miles it would seem you'd be leaving a smoke trail behind you . Are the exhaust tips blackened or sooty ?
Keep us updated .

No it was within the normal range up to the first oil change at 6400 miles
Saw on the news today about the Chrysler auto workers smoking weed and getting drunk in the plant parking lot before starting their shift making cars . I hope the Ford workers aren't doing that too . Might expain the missing 5 quarts . :winks
wow! that is totally unacceptable. I check my oil like every other day until Im confident its not using oil, it hadnt used any when I switched to synthetic at 700mi, Im now at 1200mi and (500mi on the synthetic) and it still hasnt used any. as unacceptable as your issue is, I think its good practice to keep an extra close eye on any new vehicle

That is exactly what I would do,and I'll also have a few words with the dealership owner/boss regarding this... oil in an engine IS it's life blood!

How could the engine sound even remotely right or the oil light not be on at 5 quarts low?

After reading so much about oil on here I've been checking mine about once a week just for the hell of it. I'm coming up on 1,000 fast and it's not budged a bit. And yeah, I do use the accelerator from time to time. :winks

Hey Freddy65,

+1 on everyone checking their oil! I need you to make your dealer aware of this as soon as possible. Then, private message me with your VIN, contact info, and dealer so I can escalate this if needed.

I'm just curious while you had low oil in the engine, what did you oil gauge on the cluster indicate ?
