you should be ok with the trans in there. Your biggest problem is going to be getting enough clearance to get the pan out and change the gasket
Oil Pan Gasket Question
Is it any easier to change the oil pan gasket with the transmission off the car? Or, will you still have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine to clear the K member?

Leave it volted to the motor but unbolt it from the car. You will need to jack the motor up a foot to get the gasket swapped
You really have to lift that motor high enough to get that pan and gasket out.
