Oil Pressure Light Comes On Randomly

Hello everyone.

So, I've recently bought a manual 2014 V6 S197. It's post-accident (fixed up after a front crash), and I love the car dearly.

A few days after buying it, the oil pressure light came on. The oil level is OK. There are no sounds coming from the engine. The light comes and goes, seemingly at random. More often than not, it comes up after a longer drive.
I've swapped the pressure sensor - the problem didn't go away.

The oil pressure sways around 1.7 atmospheres (around 25 PSI when warmed up and idle).

I have never owned a Mustang before, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but on the off-chance that this is relevant information, I'll add - the engine heats up really fast. The temperature gauge shows that the temperature is OK, but under the hood, it's really hot. Again, I don't know if this is because of the engine itself (I own a 2l Avenger, and while it warms up fast, there's never noticeable heat coming from under the hood), or if there's a fault.

What could be the issue? Could it be the pump? Do pumps for these engines have a reputation of giving out? The car has been driven quite a bit, after the problem started occurring - again, no sounds, no other signs of engine wear.

Any advice and help are very much appreciated!

You can't relie on the instrument cluster gauges. For an accurate measurement a mechanical gauge placed in the sender unit port can be used for test purposes.

Yes, the pressure was measured with a mechanical gauge.
I don't think it's all that common on the 3.7L but an oil pump can get weak or have a defect of some sort that makes it provide less pressure than normal. Idk what the right pressure is supposed to be on your 3.7L warmed up at idle but I'd say that 25psi sounds pretty good in general. Worn bearings or a clogged oil pump pickup are somewhat common causes for low oil pressure problems. How many miles are on the car?

can you check the pressure using the real gage, at the same time as the Low Oil Pressure light is displayed on the dash?

If so, what is the reading; is it actually low?

Almost 71k miles. I had my suspicions about the pump, as well, but the mileage sounds kind of low for this issue, as far as I'm aware?

I'll definitely need to check the pump and bearings, though - thank you!

As soon as I encounter the issue again, I shall do that, and will update, thanks!

The miles aren't very high so typically unless there was an initial issue when the engine was put together the bearings should be fine. I really don't think that there's a way to check the crank bearings without major disassembly. The oil pump mostly just requires dropping the oil pan to change though.

Understood, if the problem persists, I shall try to look into the pump-side of things, then. Thank you!
