I am now the proud owner of a very low mileage 92 LX 5.0 Vert SE. Trying to decide oil type between reg, semi or full sythetic.

Only mods are 76mm MAF and KN box filter. I foresee light use and a once a year spring oil change, as it will be stored in the winter.

So what type? I am leaning towards a semi, what brand?

Personally my car will only be driven in the summer on good days, but I am going to put full synthetic in for added protection. The brand I am planning to use is Cenex brand Maxtron, considering the good results my dad has had using it for years.

I use synthetic. When storing a car, I always thought it was best to change the oil when you store it, thus you don't leave "dirty" oil sitting in there all winter.

Exactly what I do. Change it when I put it away in the Fall. Mobil 1 10w30.

I used Pennzoil 20-40 for 10 yrs and 150K and never had an issue of any sort by doing so.
FWIW: I'm the original owner and bought my 89 Gt with only 13miles on the speedo.

Rebuilt the engine at 150K because I thought it was probably time, and now use Castrol Synthetic which gets changed about once ever 12 months or 4K a year.

So if your willing to give me another 38 yrs at this rate and I can truthfully tell you if theirs a difference in Non Synthetic and Synthetic oil. :D

Always change the oil BEFORE putting the car away for the winter.

I've always used Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 5-50 for years. For the last three seasons I've used AMS Oil 10-30 and can say that I'm getting better fuel mileage with it and the engine seems to run stronger with less throttle.

Since I only change the oil once a year on this summer toy, why not get the best. The car runs like new.
