First of all... I know that there is a sticky forum for cold air intakes but I don't want this to be missed among the numerous posts.

My 02 GT has a chip of some sort that was installed by a previous owner and I have no clue what it is for... or how to find it and figure it out. All I know is that it does have a performance chip installed. Having said that, the only other add-on performance wise is a sloppy rigged K&N filter. I am going to sell this filter and put in a full CAI system. As of now there is no heat shield separating the filter from the engine and radiator heat. It is very inefficient as of now and the filter has truly seen better days. I'm going to take it out and clean it up, re-oil and sell it cheap to my neighbor.

This is what I was thinking about adding - opinions are what I am looking for here:

Airaid 450-204 Intake System
Airaid - Product Search

AND

Airaid 400-524 PowerAid Throttle Body Spacer Airaid - Product Search

I'm getting a great price on these items and I was wondering if this is a wise upgrade for performance. I'm I wasting my money here? If so, what suggestions do you have? I really don't want to mess with the stock throttle body and plenum as of now. These seem to be easy add-ons and look pretty effective. What do ya'll think?

Thanks Mustangers,

If I was you I would get rid of the chip I've heard a read nothing good about them. A tuner is the way to go. Since you want to do a CAI upgrade there are tuner/CAI combo out there, I know American Muscle definetly has them. As for Throttle Body Spacers I hear nothing good about them either Biggest waste of time and money also. There is actually a thread out there (I believe by sillyrabbit)about the top 10 worst things to do to a mustang and a throttle body spacer was on it along with a chip.
Im the first one to reply to this post and im sure your not going to get many people to like those upgrades. Good Luck and do a little research and you'll see where im coming from on this :bigthumbsup

+1 to all of the above.

Chips are lame. I mean, you could have some custom programming done to one and it would be as good as any other form of custom tuning, but people who get chips these days are generally underinformed and over-advertised to and end up buying some goofy sh!t out of the Summit catalog. Get a handheld from AM - if you are going to spend money on a tuning device, this is absolutely the way to go.

Throttle body and other misc. intake spacers are ineffective on these cars, so skip that too.

With the cai, you won't notice any overwhelming performance gains, but they are good for a little and plus they look nice. So go for it on that one. As I mentioned in yourother thread, tb/plenum is what you want to be doing, there's an honest 10-15 hp gain to be had there.

You can do an SCT chip. I have it, The tuner can pull it out and "re-burn" it or change the tune. When I go in to the shop, they dyno it, see what needs to be changed, pull the chip out and re-burn it or reflash it and put it back in then dyno it again and see the results.

Just to confirm. These guys are correct about the location of your chip and PCM. ^^^

As far as an intake goes... Airaid makes a killer product. We've used their intakes on most of our AM company cars as well as employee cars. I have nothing but good things to say about them too. I think you'll be very happy with one of their systems!
