there is a bolt W/ nut assembly attached to the e-brake cable underneath the car (its 1 cable from the front that pulls on the cable that goes to each drum), if there is no adjustment left on the threads then you need new shoes:bigthumbsup

There's no adjuster in the system, the adjustment is in the handle, the earlier models did have an adjustment nut. The system consists of 3 cables, the equalizer cable which attaches to the handle inside the car and runs to the underside of the vehicle through a rubber boot then you have the 2 cables that run to each drum, they attach to the equalizer. There are 2 different cables available a 67" and a 70" .........the 70" cable clips in just above the slip yoke of the drive shaft ( longer case with just a inch or 2 of cable exposed ) and the 67" cable ( short case with alot of exposed cable ) clips in next to the rocker panel on each side of the car and then the exposed cable is routed across sliders up to the equalizer. Remove your armrest and the upper part of the console to access the parking brake handle and using a small pair of vice grips try loading the pulley by gripping the pulley at the side closest to the shifter and pulling backwards towards the rear seat and see if you can pull some slack out of the system.

i don't have any experience with mustangs yet since i just aquired my first one a few days ago,

but could you just pull the parking brake handle up and adjust the brake shoes to just locking the rear wheels then let the parking brake handle down?

some cars are self adjusting and all you need to do is hold the brake and pull the parking brake up and down a few times to get it to tighten up. hope that helps

You said the rear shoes are good, but are they adjusted properly? The way the spring is setup in the handle it has a ratchet style adjuster. You can see the spur gear that the handle locks to. As the cable stretches it will move a tooth or so down on the gear.

Now if you haven't adjusted the rear brakes you need to do that. On the backside of the hub behind the drum is a little rubber plug, pull the plug off and use the appropriate brake tool to spin the star wheel in there. Tighten it so that you cant spin the tire by hand and then back off with the star wheel a tiny bit so that you can spin the tire. Then put the plug back in.

Hope this helps.
