I am in the process of replacing my wiring harness on my 1969 mach 1 390 4 speed and I have come across this wire(see attached). It has been damaged and I need to find a replacement but first i need to figure out what it is. I was thinking it was a neutral safety or backup light switch but I figured someone here on the forum could guide me a little better.

If you are able to identify it what would the part be called? Where can I find a replacement?

If it was coming from the firewall near the master cylinder, it is either the neutral safety or backup light, you can connect both sides of the wire to check if the backup lights turn on or not.

Devo, you can follow two of those wires to the 4-speed, specifically to the back-up switch. The other is a loop that on an auto trans would go down to the neutral switch, as you have guessed. Without the loop there, your car will not start. On my '69, this connector is on the firewall just between the master cylinder and the wiper harness.

Just checked; at least one of the restoration parts vendors will supply the harness with it's connector. Good luck.
