First off you need to make sure that the tire manufacturer recommends their 255 be mounted on a stock rim. You may find that in some cases the rim is too narrow.

If the rim is too narrow the 255 will perform WORSE than the 235. Count on it.

When you put a wider tire on the same size rim the tire doesn’t get much wider. You are still pinching the tire on to the same size rim, which will determine how wide the tire can get.

Bottom line, run the right width tires on the right width rims or you will cause yourself problems for no advantage what so ever.

A ton of people on the Bullitt forum run 255's on their cars.
That is the worst kind of logic.facepalm.gif

Let me fill you in on something when it comes to modding cars. A LOT of people do it wrong.

It fits perfectly on the rim.
How could you know that if you haven't researched it?

Am I correct that the stock wheels are 18x8.5? If so I just looked up 5 random 255's. Three of them were designed for 8.5" rims. Two were not. So yes, you can put a 255 on a 18x8.5 rim. But you need to make sure it is the right 255.

I cant imagine there is any real benefit that would justify the swap anyway.
If he went with a better quality tire it would be worth it.

I would remove 235’s to put 255’s on less I had already worn through the 235’s though.

So I just found this picture of a 235, 255, and a 285 all lined up together. The 255 looks much bigger than the 235 to me. I know the size difference is only 3/4", but it looks a lot more in this picture? Wonder why?

Perspective

And tread pattern has a lot to do with it too (the difference between the 235 and 255). Some tread patterns make a tire look wider.

Here is what tread pattern can do for perception. Tire on the left is a 295mm Nitto NT05. Tire on the right is a 305 Toyo R888.

Tell me the Toyo doesn’t look a LOT wider.

Then nitto invos should fit fine. I went from 235 to 255 Invos but with 17" wheels. Great in everything but snow...

I checked their site and approved rim width are from 8" - 9.5" for the 255/45/18s...

The manufacture has info on what rims the tire should be run on. Just follow that.
