im doing a gt40p head/intake swap and i have the lower manifold and right cylinder head off and noticed this chunk of dirt on what i thought was just something for the lower manifold to sit on and turns out its a passage or something completely packed with grease or oil soaked dirt. what exactly is this? thanks:bigthumbsup

Something to do with the PCV valve maybe? I think it sits right about there on your lower manifold.
Based on the location, its the hole for the PCV valve(in my opinion)
well the pcv is in the lower manifold with a big windage tray that covers it from what ever that thing is
It's just a hole. It only goes down a short distance. Not sure why its there. When I replaced my lower intake gaskets I just cleaned it out and put everything back together.

PS this proves that I am obviously one of the idiots! Im glad that people dont assume my information is the "gospel". :nono:
I believe its a Frost Plug there so that the water ports don't burst if they freeze, that is what will give. It will get like that. Clean it out before you put the new gaskets on. Though looking at it again, it would sit right below the pcv valve as well. Either way all you need to do is clean it.
Its an oil passage. I believe it feeds oil to the lifters.
its for your pvc, which it should have a screen.
It is not a pcv hole. There is a silver freeze plug in there for either oil or coolant.
It is the upper oil galley plug for the lifters. If you loose them you have no oil pressure:bigthumbsup

This is correct. I can take a pic of a clean one on my car as my intake and heads are off right now too. It looks like any other frost plug just much smaller than the external ones.
