Please Help me with hood pins... backwards??

Alright.. so I have an 01 coupe with a stock hood. I don't like it at all. I am seriously thinking of getting a 2-3 in. cowl hood and some stripes. But, I have been reading some horror stories sbout people refusing to install hood pins and them flying up at even low speeds. I hate the look of hood pins, but I found a post on another forum where they put the pins underneath the hood and I am wondering if anyone has any experience on this.
