Is the rule of thumb that the bevel on piston rings on the top ring go facing up & the second ring bevel goes facing down.I believe this to be true but my(thick headed) friend disagrees. Please help us settle this.
The last set of cromemoly rings I bought from HASTINGS had a note in the box ... Both top rings where identical in my engine ... The note showed them both installed with the bevel towards the bottom of the piston... If you installed them with the bevel up the force of compression would cause them to close ... The bevel edge also makes them easier to slip into the block without breakage.
