Could this be the next competitor for the Mustang....a retro Camaro?
What do you guys think of this?

Pics of that car have been floating around the net as long as pics of the S197 have. And if memory serves me correctly the project was scrapped for the GTO instead.
GM scrapped this car for the GTO? No wonder they're going to lay-off 30,000. Idiots. Would ANYONE out there buy a GTO over this if it was available?

Serves them right.

Another case of GM playing "catch up". I think the back end looks like a Hyundai Tiburon / Corvette meld. The front grille is pretty decent, and if GM actually made the car with the mags shown in the concept renderings, it wouldn't look half bad.

However, the second you throw a GM motor in it...
Sorry guys, I didn't realize this pic has been around for a bit...I just saw it the other day for the first. I do like the looks of the front end. Looks a bit like a '69 Camaro wouldn't you say...not too sure if I like the back of it though....looks a like a '74 Cuda from behind.
no, that's a slightly different one, looks like it's based on the Solstice from the platform. A lot shorter than the other pics.

But it looks photochopped.

Maybe somebody out there can confirm this bit of information... I remember reading ( a while back) that Chevy cannot use the Camaro name again for a while. If I recall, Canada made a deal with Chevy to make the Camaro's at a Canada factory from now on, and in turn, Canada subsidized the factory build by over 10 million dollars. Since the last Camaro rolled off the line, Chevy shorly after bulldozed the factory and turned it into brownfield.
looks more like a retro corvair to me.maybe it'll have a turbo option too!:dunce:
I agree. I like the looks of this Camaro as well as I like my stang. I guess I'm glad they scrapped it cause I'd have to have one parked right beside Esmaralda. Could you imagine having those two side by side in the driveway?

I think she looks fine.
But as already mentioned, the project for a Chevy Camaro has been scrapped by GM.
It seems that only Dodge stands in the fight of the retro' looking muscle car with the new Challenger, against Ford...
That picture was never an official picture by Chevy, it was actually done by a talented teenager who made an impression as to what the next Camaro might be. This car had no hope of being built.

The new Dodge Challenger, on the other hand.....

Looks more futuristic than retro to me.
My wife has a dodge ram (hemi) in the driveway but thats as close to a chrysler car as we're gettin............:thumbsup
yeah, that's true . .. money has a way of smoothing things over, though . ..

No, it hasn't been scrapped . . . there are several platforms they're doing cost/unit studies on, right now.

No one at GM thought the Mustang would be as popular as it is, and it's made them rethink their decision on the Camaro - Same with the "Charger" now being morphed into a Challenger.

the chalenger looks really good and the camaro even though its not a ford would be cool to have back...you know something new to beat on with our mustangs......i think they are in some serious financial trouble right now so who knows if they will or won't but something to think about for sure....

Are you sure it's still going on ? I recall reading a couple of articles somewhere (I doubt I could find them again now...) confirming that the Camaro was a no go...

AutoWeek seems to be the best source on these things, and they reported that Camaro got a kickstart late this summer, after GM reviewed Mustang sales.

I'd seen a different camaro concept drawing a few months ago- cant remember where, but was a newspaper clip for an auto show or something- it looked WAY mor like a 69 except the grille was flat/painted on looking, and without the recess, looked kinda silly.

about the same time saw a drawing for a new little Nomad- it looked sweet, and appeared small enough to get great mileage while still carrying the family...time will tell.
as usual, ANYTHING that GM kills and then re-births sucks.

Examples:

1. Impala - even with the new V8, still doesnt deserve nameplate
2. Monte Carlo - all 3 times it was "reborn" - sucks (original sucked too)
3. GTO - 400 hp!!, great idea in the beginning - along the line GM fvcked it up by shoving the engine in a Grand Am:sterb: :sterb: :sterb: :sterb:

4. Camaro... it'll suck. you can count on it, its GM

and whats this HHR p.o.s?? (Heritage Hot Rod??) im still trying to figure out what the hell that thing is supposed to resemble from GM's past.... looks more Chryslers past, i think GM liked the PT Cruiser and hit the Zerox button....

Bottom Line: Ford is the only one with a clue on a retro muscle car. Dodge is trying, ill give them that, the Hemi is cool, the Magnum is even OK, but a 4 door Charger????? Must have been the same designer who worked out the GTOs body lines....:sterb: :sterb: :sterb: :sterb:

now the challenger concept is a different story... they build that... ill change my tune....:tongue
