Premium Fuel switch on a 2.3T

What exactly does the premium fuel switch do on my turbo coupe? Does it change the "tune" in the computer to gain a few ponies? advance timing? Just curious as I have no owners manual. Want to find one online, or even ebay eventually.

From what I have read and piece together it advances the timing and gives a few more hp. I got my 2 wires tied together and run premium gas. Maurice
This is what it does according to FORD. In the regular mode?? On a 5 speeder car it limits the boost to 10 LBS MAX. It also retards the timing 4* When its in the preamium mode it cancels the above numbers. It actually does not retune anything as far as i KNOW??? Just boost and ignition timing. All above numbers are not set in stone and can sometimes be different. But this is basically what it DOES Peace Tom

Thanx for the info guys. So if mine was making 14-15 psi boost, but the switch is on regular, does that mean it was bypassed somehow? Or something faulty maybe?
Or if the system has a manual boost controller added to it. I'm running a Gillis valve and the boost control stuff is disconnected so the switch can be in either position and it makes no difference in boost or timing (I buy premium gas all the time).
These are the LA3 spark advance tables from binary editor - first is regular, second is premium.

Does it retard the base timing or is the advance the only part of the timing that is changed?
