Problem with window closer

998 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Basily
Hi all!
Ford Mustang 2017 (no rest), coupe

I have a problem, the window closer on the passenger door does not work.
The glass responds adequately to lifting / lowering, but when the door is opened or closed, the closer does not lower / does not raise the glass.

I have an option that the problem is in the door control unit. (Could there be mechanical damage to the glass lifting system?)

No sound signal 🫤
Could it be circuit breakers?

Welcome to AFM. How does the glass respond adequately to lifting and lowering? Please describe how you are raising and lower the window glass. By hand?

When you press the power window button, the window goes up and down normally. Only the window closer does not work (does not bring the window to the maximum upper point). and when you open the door, the window does not lower slightly (and when you close the door, the window does not automatically rise)

I think the problem you have is the closed window does not automatically drop to clear the top window channel when the door opens. Also, if the window opens with a loud thump or makes a loud thump when raising you need to reset the window. To reset the window follow these steps.

1. With door closed, lower the window with constant finger pressure on the switch and keep pressure on the switch for 2 seconds after the window is in full down position.

2. Then raise the window with constant pressure on the switch and hold the switch in position for 2 seconds after the window is fully up.

3. Now open and closes the window normal a couple times. You should not hear any hard thump noise when the window opens or closes.

NOTE: You reset the other window using the same process.

4. Verify the automatic window drop and window lift. With window in up position pull the door handle and verify the driver window drops and clears the top window channel to allow door to open freely.

5. Then close the door and verify the window automatically raises back into the window channel.

Thnx, I have tried, but the problem hasn't been resolved.
The window does not go up/down when opening and closing the door.
There are no loud thumps.
The window responds adequately to the power window button.
I can't add a video to show this

May this problem be in fuses?

It could be an issue with the car not knowing you have the door open. Close all the doors and wait for all the interior lights to go off, open the passenger door only. if the interior lighting doesn't come on, you might have a bad connection to the door switch, or a faulty door switch. Just something else to check before spending any money.

Kraig1957, thank you, but I checked. I unlocked the car with a key, then l opened the problematic door first, the light lit up in the cabin.
It is time to remove the door panel and start disconnecting connectors and inspecting pins for corrosion and displacement. I would do that before moving to the next thing which would be to replace the window regulator.
This video shows that you have to disconnect power to the window motor(via the fuse or battery cable) while the window is going up or down to get the reset to work: Ford Mustang Window Bounce Back + Short Drop Glass Problem! EASY FIX! - YouTube
The window motor has a module integrated with it. The module needs to be reset but in order to do that you have to disconnect power from the motor in some way while lowering the window. If that doesn't work then you might need a new window motor: (228) 2005 Mustang GT. Problem with power window | Ford Mustang Forum (allfordmustangs.com)
This Ford procedure was copied from another forum:

Power Door Window Initialization

Initialization

1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this manual, refer to health and safety warnings in section 100-00 General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE:
This step is only necessary for an existing window regulator motor. If installing a new window regulator motor, proceed to Step 2.

To initialize an existing window regulator motor, the motor must first be de-initialized. This can be accomplished by disconnecting the battery cable or window motor fuse while the window is operating. After the motor has been de-initialized, reconnect the battery cable or fuse before proceeding to the following step.

2. WARNING: Keep objects and body parts clear of the glass panel when carrying out the initialization procedure. During the initialization procedure, the glass panel closes with high force and cannot detect objects in its path. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE:
The door MUST be closed during this procedure (for convertibles, the top and quarter glass must be in the CLOSED and UP position) in order for the door window motor to initialize.

With the door window in the fully OPEN position, press and hold the window control switch in the UP position at the second detent until the window glass stalls into the glass top run for at least 2 seconds. Release the switch.

3. Press and hold the window control switch in the DOWN position at the second detent until the window glass stalls at the bottom of its travel for at least 2 seconds.

4. Cycle the window glass up and down once more to set the window soft stop for the DOWN position.

5. Test for correct window operation by carrying out the one-touch up and one-touch down features.

good afternoon! I have a 6th generation Ford Mustang (2017), do you think it will work?
Yes, that procedure was posted in a thread that was for 2015+ Mustangs but it will work for any Mustang that has the Short Drop Window function when opening the doors. It is a standardized procedure.

Kind!
I did everything that you advised: when lowering the glass, I disconnected the battery, then reconnected it, then lowered the glass, held the power window button in the extreme position for 2-3 seconds, raised the glass and again held the power window button in the extreme position for 2-3 seconds. So lowered and raised 3 times without a break.

When the glass was raised, the closer worked normally, the glass closed completely.
But when the door is opened, the closer does not work, and the glass does not go down as it should. When the door is closed, the glass interferes with the normal closing of the door. Sticks to rubber.

Now everything is as usual. The glass closer does not work on opening / closing the door

could there be a problem with the contact between the door handle and the glass closer?

Unfortunately, you probably need a new window motor. The module that controls the short drop window function is integrated into it.

good afternoon! Problem solved. It was the window switch. We dismantled the door, cleaned the window switch, and the windows closer began to work.
