Problems and Solutions for Interior Rattles

2788 Views 19 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  MEH362
I absolutely love my GT. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is the symphany of interior noises. I have an annoying metallic rattle coming from the passenger dash, a clicking from behind my left ear, a rattly driver's side door, and different low pitch rattle coming from the passenger side somewhere. I took it to the dealer last week and drove the tech around. He heard all of the noises but the only one they fixed was the the door rattle. I guess I will bring it back untill they get it right. Has anyone had these problems, if so did you get them fixed? So far the only solution in these forums is the use of weather stripping under the dash.

I've only got 3500 miles on her, but the only interior noise I have is the occaisional knock of an unused seatbelt against the side panels. How many miles have you put on?

Thought I had an A/C vent rattling the other day, but it was only a clip I'd put on the visor. Must say I was annoyed thinking my new car was rattling
I have the rattle in the dash TOO!!!!!
It's driving me batty. You can hardly hear it, but it's there just the same. I'm gonna drive a friend around this weekend and try and find it. I'll keep you posted!
4700 miles on her
I've got a rattle behind the back driver side seat. Maybe in the trunk. I only notice it when the windows are up. It happens when I hit a bump in the road. Kinda hard to crawl back there and track it down while it's doing it.

I've got one back there to, only shows up when the car rides over a bump. Like you I haven't been able to track the little bugger down yet. Either in the trunk or in the rear deck somewhere.

Take the gun out of the glovebox. SLOWLY.

Take the body out of the trunk. It will eventually start to stink too.

Yeah, I just started hearing the trunk (or rear end?) rattle a week or two ago. Got a little over 8K on it now. Guess I'll take a look around this weekend and let you know if I find anything. Oh, and just a tip Moses, the center console is much more convenient than the glovebox to store your hardward.

This is good .... :laughlitt
The trunk noise is probably the hatch release come loose.

The dash noise is someting I had as well. Took it to the dealer and he said "they forgot to put some parts in at the factory"

They fixed it and now I have no squeeks.
boglin and vandil - that's what my seatbelt knock sounds like. Hit a bump and you get a knock-knock-knock That sounds like it's in the very back. So far, Ive had the rear seat belts do it once in a while, but mostly the psgr front when nobody's using it. Try buckling all the belts and see if it disappears.

Aluminum Dash?

I've got the dash vibration - but only when I'm accelerating fairly hard. Thought is was the trim rings on the dash vents, but I don't think so. I suspect it's the aluminum panels on the IUP.

Do any of you others who have the dashboard noise also have the aluminum dash (IUP)?

I wish it was that. My daughters were riding in the back and I asked them where it was coming from and they were buckled in at the time. :sosad:
I've heard the seat belt noise and this is different. Farther back in the car somewhere.

So far I've just turned up the radio or rolled down the window to let the road noise cover it.
YUP....got the IUP!
turn2,
did they elaborate on what was missing?
No noises here but I leave her at home --- LOL.....the devil made me
Also, if you've checked everywhere and still cannot determine where the noises are coming from...

... if you hear a demonic voice that seems to be omnipresent that says "GET OUT" and you're sure the radio is off, then RUN.
I used to have an annoying rattle, too. Was driving me crazy! Then I realized it was my glasses in my sunglass clip on my visor! Guess I can't blame that on Ford. Other than that, no other noises at 8300 miles, but I must confess that either the stereo or the rumble would be too loud to notice!
I too have the IUP. Ford order a replacement part for my passenger wheel well. I don't know if they are replacing the clamps or the entire piece. When I take it back I'll show them this post and hopefully get those noises fixed. I'll post the solutions if they actually fix it.

I only have 2300 miles on the car.

i had this same problem but here is how to fix it. pop your trunk and look behind where the back passenger seat is. theres a little gap that you can reach your hand in. whats rattling is a little piece of metal thats next to the seat belt. when you hit a bump the seat belt hits the metal cause the noise because the metal is so straight. now if you just grab that little piece of metal and bend it just slightly it will stop your rattling noise.
rattling noise from trunk/rear

My car would make a noise in the back whenever I'd hit a bump or rough road. I found that the rattling noise that I thought was coming from the trunk was actually coming from the rear bumper.

When I had a local body shop paint my stripes on the car. They removed the plastic cover over the rear. On the actual bumper (both front & rear) there are a couple of large impact resistant styrofoam pieces. One of them was slightly loose and wobbled.
:sterb:

Once that was better secured the noise went away entirely.
