Procharged automatic questions

So I officially started saving up for the procharger. I have some questions about the automatic kit. Has anyone supercharged an automatic? Is there anything I need to reinforce drivetrain wise? An upgraded driveshaft and gears are on my upgrade list already but is there anything else I'm forgetting?

I know I will need to do some suspension upgrades to keep the power on the pavement. I already have a custom tuner and tunes for life I guess so that will come in handy when it comes time for install. Also what did it cost just in labor to have the kit installed? Sorry if some of these questions have been asked before, I couldn't find any info on automatic installs.

Do the work yourself! Its not that big of a deal mainly just intake pipes and belts and brackets but with an auto I would invest in a gauge pillar (which look cool too:D) and a trans temp gauge and whatever else you want just to monitor and if it starts getting too hot at times get a transmission cooler

I'm interested in this also.

I think any of us who are serious at modding should automatically address the driveshaft issue which I see you've done.

The gear swap is a subjective thing I think. I believe you are perfectly capable of running 2.73's while supercharged if you so desire.

Is a suspension upgrade NECESSARY...? I don't know. Keep in mind you have the same suspension setup as the 2010 GT. I'm sure there are a few guys SC'ed running around with that setup who dont have problems. I'd opt for the FRPP Handling Pack though.

BRAKES! Again, necessary, I don't know. Certainly couldn't hurt to upgrade.

The only "kit" offered is for manual transmissions, for an automatic you will need to get the "tuner kit" and take it to someone for the install and tuning. The tuner kit does not have injectors with it either so you would need to source some of those too.

I suppose you could install the kit yourself and then trailer it to a tuner for tuning.

And your free tunes for life won't help since they do not offer supercharger tunes.

And the guy from CFM that posted on here about his driveshaft vibration has an automatic in his car, I believe he was the first to install one on an automatic.

Even if the free tunes for life covered FI, you should NEVER rely on a canned tune when you're boosting your car! Always get it professionally dyno tuned so you can get the most out of your custom application while keeping it safe!
Thanks for the input. About the tuner, I was just saying I owned the device so it might come in handy for the shop installing the kit. I wasn't about to just ask for a tune after bolting on a super charger haha.

I'm gonna shop around Houston and see what place could install it and their estimate in labor and tuning.

As for the drive shaft vibration it probably just needs to be re-indexed.

My first question is: What are the differences between the GT and V6 autos. Ideally, the answer is 'nothing,' because putting 450 HP through a design-target 300 HP transmission is always bad news. You should at least figure out if you CAN swap in a GT transmission down the line if things go wrong. Usually the design differences are somewhat subtle like less clutch packs and less line pressure.

And internet confirmed:

We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach when matching the transmission to the engine,” said Bryant Grytzelius, 6R80 transmission engineering manager. “With the 3.7-liter engine, for example, that particular transmission has fewer clutch plates compared with the other engines. Everything is sized accordingly for optimum driveability, performance and fuel economy.”

I am not saying that you WILL kill your transmission. But you should set aside budget in case it happens down the line.

Here are some pics of clutch packs killing themselves and the housing inside of a my old Volvo's transmission. (300 HP through something designed for 168 HP):

This was after maxing out the shift firmness to avoid that roasting the clutches feeling. Really there is no magic bullet to protect an under designed automatic transmission.

Hi! I own the ProCharged automatic that will be featured on the October issue of MM&FF. The kit will work on the auto but will require a small section of the trans cooler lines to be modified to clear the supercharger mounting bracket. Other than that it is the same as the manual installation. An aftermarket driveshaft is pretty much mandatory. I recommend at least upgrading the rear lower control arms and you will definitely need a set of drag radials.

The installation will take a good two days for a first timer. The hoses that come with the kit need to be trimmed to fit and there are several parts of the install that require a little patience to accomplish them correctly, specifically the add-on crank pulley.

I recommend you choose a tuner carefully. The new engines are not very forgiving when it comes to excessive timing due to their high compression and the transmission part of the tune on these cars can be tricky specially when the gear ratio has been changed from factory. I am an SCT dealer and can research for you which tuner in your area would be qualified to tune your car so that you don't end up being someone's guinea pig at your expense.

I'm confused with who is who in the Lamota/CFM car. Seriously was interested but finally came up with my own solution.

Guy I kept talking to was actually at Lamota Performance. Guy named Patrick. He kept saying he was talking to someone name Jake, the owner, and would just never follow up with me.

Regatlt87 was contacting them as well but couldn't get a response. Your inlet pipe fixes a big bottle neck between the water pump and intake pipe. I did something similar.

The biggest thing for me is I don't want to destroy the transmission. With an auto it seems like it will be harder to adapt for the added horsepower. The driveshaft upgrade is pretty simple as is a new handling pack. Beefing up the transmission is on a different level.

If there is any question as to reliability with putting that much power through the stock transmission I'd rather just put new gears, exhaust, and driveshaft and call it a day. Pay the sucker off next year.

My trans is completely stock and so far it has been OK with almost a month of pretty hard driving under its belt. The only thing that I have to go by currently is that there are 9sec 5.0L Mustangs with almost 700whp running the factory trans so I can only assume that ours should be OK with 400-500whp. Only time will tell how long they last at the different hp levels.

The automatic transmission in the V6 car is the same as in the GT save for a few clutches and tuning will make it capable of handling quite a bit of extra power.

And later on if it needs to be overhauled then you can add the extra parts to bring it up to or better than the GT transmission specs.

Between your drive shaft and the supercharger plan on some HD transmission components. If the only difference is the # of clutch paks between V6 and V8 trannys this may not be an expensive mod to your tranny. Figure about 8hrs. @ $70/hr. for install of supercharger but let us know when you get estimates.
