No they aren't louder than straight pipes.
If you want to go louder than I would lose the cats
Look for side exhausts. The method to this madness is the shorter the pipes, the less the sound gets cancelled out as it travels down the pipe. So the closer to the engine the pipes terminate the louder it is. Get loud cams like thumper cams or comp cams. That would really wake up the dead. Oh one more thing. If you can, tune your engine to run rich. More fuel, means bigger explosions inside the cylinders, which translates for more bang!
yea my buddy has no cats on his and it sounds beastly but i dont wanna go THAT loud just about equally louder if not a lil more louder than straight. is there any mufflers that are louder than slp what about boomtubes?

I just got my Boom Tubes on this past Sunday. To me they sound perfect when driving with the windows down, and just a hair louder than I wanted when cruising on the interstate with the windows up. I haven't heard SLP LMs in person, but from all the YouTube videos I've watched I choose Boom Tubes because LMs seemed to get raspy in higher rpms and Boom Tubes sounded deeper.
09StanGt, no muffler system can be louder than straight pipes, hence the term -- muffler... meaning it muffles the sound.

The only thing louder than simply removing the mufflers and cats, is shortening the pipes. Check out the top fuel dragsters. They have 8 short individual pipes pointing upward and plugged on each exhaust port of the engine. No headers, just a pipe. To incorporate that to you ride, you have to get rid of the hood. :happyhapp
That's the end of manipulating the exhaust for louder volume. Anything more, you have to change cams and run a rich tune where you can see flames coming out of your pipes. :bigthumbsup

+1, I miss my straights, but Texas Highway Patrol, didn't like riding next to me, and you can only get so many "fix it" tickets! He is right, you could get some resonators for your setup to clean the rasp out, if you want to remove your cats, and you shouldn't lose any decibels. Plus you could spend the money and have cut outs installed in front of the cats. Saw it on a 03 cobra in my club. It rattled windows!!!!!! :eyebulge:
