I just received a 2000 ford mustang V6 3.8L for graduation three weeks ago. I'm trying to install a new sound system in it and have run across a question. Is it possible to hook up a subwoofer to the factory amplifier. If so how can you do this, or would it be easier to buy a cheap amp from a local wal-mart and hook up my subwoofer to that?

i would upgrade they aren't that powerful and don't go cheap use Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers i'm buying an amp to handle 2500 watts rms for 300 dollars. you cant beat that price most amps are 150-250 go with power akoustic yo will love it

If you are just adding a sub, the easiest way to do it is get an amp that has a line level input. That way, all you have to do is tap into a speaker wire and run the amp from there to the sub.....

yeah dont do it. i just put an alpine type R with a rockford power amp in my stang. its very nice. dont waste your time with the factory amp. sonic electronics is a good site to deal with i've gotten a bunch of things from them and i love the site.

I have the same system as you + a subwoofer. Sounds awesome just like he said. Aftermarket Amps are definitely worth it especially in our tiny little coupes/convertibles. :shiny:

I am looking to put a subwoofer in my 2000 V6 as well. I need help removing and replacing the factory head unit. any body know any good videos or walk throughs? do i even have to switch the head unit?
