I live in Alabama. What is the difference between a car title and just the Bill of Sale? I am looking at a 1966 Mustang and the owner (of 20 years) only has the Bill of Sale. Do I need the title? Can I still get a title? I am confused on how this works.

Thanks,

Brian

You only will get a Bill of Sale on a car that old....

Brian, you will only get a bill of sale on a car that old in Alabama.

Every motorized vehicle 1975 and newer in the state of Alabama needs to be titled.

If the car is older than that, you only take a bill of sale to get it registered and get license tags.

The only time I know you may have a title on a car that is pre-1974 in Alabama is if you purchase it out of state and you have a lien against it or finance the car.

BTW - since you are local, check this out........

Thanks for the info. I am going to go check the car out on Saturday. I doubt I would have it by the show but I will try to make it anyways.

Thanks,

Brian
