Quick question about cobra mass air

1025 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Brutal Metal
Just something i was thinking about. I know im no were near ready for 24lb injectors but, I have the cobra computer mass air meter and a set of 24lb injectors. When the time comes would the cobra mass air work on the a9l with the 24lb injectors. I only ask because it would be nice to not have to get another mass air meter when it comes time, Thanks

To clarify, as e-bay has some very questionable retailers....

You have...
X3Z ecu
F1SF-***** part number on your MAF sensor, which is mounted in a 70mm housing

Those numbers are critical to match up.
If that isn't what you have, let me know... I can help you get what you need.

In short and direct response to the question you asked...
NO,
A MAF meter for an X3Z will not be the same or work with an A9* ecu.... Regardless of the size of injector used.

Thanks man i appreciate that. I didnt get it from ebay though i bought it from a kid who wrecked his mustang Thanks for the response though I greatly appreciate it
wrecking mustang , not good. :happyhapp
So a F1SF MAF sensor won't work with an A9L computer? I can get one from work for $80 bucks and was thinking about going that route to match up with my stock 60mm TB just to get rid of that restrictive 55mm MAF unit. Would I also have to get the other computer? I've heard that the A9L will work with Cobra parts and 24# injectors. I don't want to do much to my engine right now because I'd like to build a stroker in a year or two so why waste money on my stock engine right now. I would like to make it the best it can be for what it is though and the MAF seems like the weak link in my intake stream.
Maybe that would explain why some have driveability problems, because many here have used a Cobra mass air with an A9L computer.

Nope,
The car will run, and may even seem to idle 'pretty decent', but as you get higher into the output range of the MAF... the farther off the calibration gets.
This introduces error into the Fuel Tables and the Ignition Timing Tables.
Basically, everything that depends on LOAD gets hosed...

If you have an A9L and 19Lb injectors, then the j/y MAF you are looking for is a 70mm housing (with the bar/post down the middle), and a sensor with part number 'F2VF-*****'
This can be found on v8, v6, and Cobra Mustangs from 94-95. They all ran the same MAF.... which if you stop to ponder on HOW Ford did that..... MAF meters can start to make a lot more sense.

If you want to run 24Lbs on an A9L, then you have 2 options.
1. Aftermarket 'calibrated' MAF for 24's AND A9L (Note that an aftermarket MAF for an X3Z will not be the same as that for 24's and an A9L)
2. Install a custom J3 chip with the tune parameters needed. Tweecer, Moates are good options if you want to do this yourself. Otherwise a dyno tune is a good option.

I can't tell you how many times I've been on e-bay and seen ads for "70mm 93Cobra MAF Calibrated for 19's"
or
"70mm 93Cobra MAF Calibrated for 24's"
Pure lies. These guys should be prosecuted with fraud.
I've even tried sending them messages explaining the differences, or just telling them they were LYING.... all have gone un-responded.

I hate these ebay guys.... because sooner or later their customers end up on the boards trying to figure out why their junk doesn't run right...
Sorry for the rant,
jason

I will not considered that a rant.....

You are just stating facts that are 110% the truth.......

For that I..........

The 70MM Cobra isn't the greatest flowing anyway, it has that long metal rod in the center, a better choice for reasonable price, C&L, or you can get Pro-M's calibrated for 24lb injectors also for quite cheap now! With this economy it's a buyers market, I'm gonna be snatching up a Vortech Blower soon, I got a few I'm watching now!
