Bone stock 6m 2011 5.0, looking for a cat-back that will perform while staying as close to quite as the stock exhaust. Will consider all options, JBA, Flows, Pypes, GT 500 anyone who can help I appreciate it thanxs guys and Be safe out there, hell of a car to drive slow.

I had a Magnaflow Street catback with after cat x-pipe for a little over a year. I eventually sold it because it was too quiet and tame. Keeping the stock cats is key to a quiet exhaust. As soon as they are gone the volume goes way up.

GT500 and if you want it a little louder take out the resonators. Im in love with mine and have no intentions of changing them.

Sounds awesome at WOT and nice and smooth when cruising through town. Extremely easy to keep them quite with the right amount of throttle.

Axle backs will not gain any performance. If you want quiet, keep the stockers.

Love my gt500's with the resonators out. No drone and quiet when I'm not on the throttle. I get compliments on the sound all the time.

On the mileage question, I went from 17 mpg stock to 19 plus on the bama 93 race. Not a big fan of the tune but this thread isn't about that.

Go for the gt500's. I love them and also wife agrees (she's not into cars so this is critical for my modding future).

Gt 500 was most likely wat I was going to go with, but if I can stay fairly quite with a Bassani or Jba maybe one of those. If a tune makes the gas mileage better I need to get that done ASAP, intake and tune, be my Christmas present to myself. Thanx everyone for your responses- keep them coming I like this site and check out my other threads, I have some other questions, just got my '11 5.0.

Just kind of throwing this out there.

Why buy a Mustang GT and worry about gas mileage?

:im confused:

If you are getting good gas mileage then you are driving it wrong.

Frankly, neither will most catbacks. Not without headers or an off road mid pipe anyway. Then the situation just starts to get a little heavy handed. Borla and Magnaflow, ok, 10'ish RWHP supposedly. Ditching those stupid resonators helps a bit though since they neck down quite tightly. Borla's catbacks are only 2.75" piping, just like the stock system (sans the resonators), granted the Borla system is much smoother in the bends and doesn't have as many of them.

I don't believe gas mileage is a worry here. Wasn't a consideration for me. However, I am happy to see a calculator verified improvement in my mileage with a tune. Good gas mileage relative to performance isn't something you see often discussed and something we take advantage of. Our mustangs when driven normally are really efficient. Much more so than our German friends (at least according to my m5 and e63 friends).

HAHA! I get 20-21 mpg and still have fun driving my car, no need to pound on it everywhere you go.

OP, if you want a slightly louder exhaust go with GT 500s and resonator delete.

I have Corsa extremes. Love them. Quiet at idle, just a little louder than stock. At cruise speeds around city and on highway they are
louder than stock with a nice muscle car rumble not bothesome in any way. at wide open throttle words cannot describe it. They are loud and aggressive. You only know they are really there when you really get on it. And there is absolutely no drone at any speed. I have tried them with and without resonators. A little louder without them at lower speeds but still very tolerable. At WOT without resonators all the sound goes out the back but Im told they are loud.
I also love the unique tips on the Corsa mufflers . Worth the money IMO.
And no, I dont work for or have any affiliation with Corsa.Just a satisfied customer.

Are you looking to do catless with LTs or stay with the stock cats and headers? Either way, the Magnaflow street series is very tame sounding (maybe too much so with stock cats and headers) and with their straight through design they will flow more than you will ever need and will not drone at cruise under load like a chambered muffler tends to.

^ ^ ^ yep . . .

don't expect any noticeable performance increase; but the Magnaflow axle-backs had a great smooth deep tone on my 2010, about the same loudness as the stock exhaust but better tone, and I assume they would be similar on the 2011+ ; also zero drone

I am talking about the rectangular ones, not the round "magnapacks" that are quite a bit louder

The Maggy Streets are chambered mufflers. Not all chambered mufflers mean drone either. The GT500 axle backs are chambered. :winks
