yeah, unless he has an auto, and the cavy has a stick. what year car?
A friend (of a friend) wants to race me. A month ago my friend and I raced (4 liter 2001 ranger vs my 96 v6) and he beat me by a car length(only because i had 4 people in the car). His friend has a pontiac Grand Prix (mid 90's model) and wants to race. All 3 vehicles are automatics. What are the chances of winning?
Do you know for sure what year the GP is? I think they did a redesign in 97 or something that included diff engines... If its a 96 or earlier, then you shouldn't have much of a problem winning. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the pre 97 engines being pretty weak. In 97-98 GM dropped in that wonderful 3800 and even added a supercharger if i'm not mistaken.

Then again, you're in a 96 3.8. It will be a driver's race for sure. Especially with the Ranger running that giant 4.0L
Not sure of the year on the GP. I still beleive that I can take the ranger without any problems (before i had 3 passengers with me) and he only 'beat' me by a car length up to 70.

And where is a good site to find 0-60 specs on stock cars? I cant seem to ever find a decent report except for www.dragtimes.com, and those are questionable...

you should be able to take a GT with some luck, but a GTP will require a 99+

Against the Grand Prix GTP. the 97 doesn't stand a chance.

the 2003 - drivers race.

I think the years were referring to the 2003 Auto Cavelier with CAI and the mods to it. the second info was for the 97 mustang (Also an auto with a CAI).

I was referring to this race.

If it's a GTP or GT, you hav eno chance.

I don't know enough about the cavalier. Seems to me that one year they got a pretty substantial upgrade on the engine. I never paid attention to them.
Ahhh... you were answering two questions in one post.

So what about that 2001 ranger with a 4.0? I could hang with him about 1 carlength behind up to 70, and that was with 3 passengers with me. Think I could take the ranger fairly easily?

yeah, might beat you to 20, but truck gearing + weight can't catch up
