JB02GT said:My car has the stock 02 GT hood with the raised scoop. I would like to have a black racing stripe (wide center stripe with pinstripes on either side) on the hood of my Mustang and possibly the front bumper. I have seen vinyl decals at auto parts stores that have all of this as a one-piece application and the prices are much less than anything you can order online. Would I be stupid to simply buy one of these and attempt to apply it myself? I don't want it to end up looking 'ghetto', but if the materials are just as good and I can put it on fairly easily, I would as soon not spend a couple hundred bucks on something that can be done for much less. If this is something I can do myself, anyone have any good links to how-to articles on this subject? How much more difficult would the job become if I decided to take the stripe all the way from the front bumper, across the hood, over the roof, across the trunk and down the back bumper? Thanks.
JB02GT said:Thanks. I guess I will wait and order what I want from Bob White graphics and/or Graphic Express. They seem to be the folks with the best looking Mustang graphics and both claim to use 3M. I will probably even have them put on by a pro. I talked to a guy at a paint/body shop the other day and he said they could probably put on everything I want for around $100 in labor cost. He said that they could paint what I want on the car, but it would cost about ten times as much. For what I want, he actually recommended going with a good quality vinyl rather than paint. I'm not planning anything outrageous, but am doing all my mods - mechanical and appearance - with extra money as I have it. I guess I am getting anxious to see the finished product. I just need to remind myself (or be reminded) that I plan to have the car for years and it is better to wait and have a better end result.

JB02GT said:The more I look at pictures on the 'Net and see other yellow Mustangs, 'plain' and with various stripe kits, the more I think I don't want stripes, after all. I have really liked the stripes I have seen on other colors, and have seen some yellows with nice stripes, but as I see more yellows, the more I like the 'clean and simple' exterior look - especially on the zinc yellow that mine has. I think maybe just a good tint job and letter inserts for the back bumper (am still deciding between black or stainless) will look the best. If I do stripes at all, it will probably just be rocker panel stripes and I will go to a good dealer, buy a 3M product and likely have it professionally installed. Thanks for all the input!

Geez though -- at least get rid of that huge dealer sticker!
