Hey guys I was just wondering if any of you all have a radar detector. If so how do they work for you and what is the best brand out there?

I've got the Escort Passport 8500x or something like that, and it works fine. $299 though. :)

Do a search, this topic has been covered once or twice already and one thread was fairly long and detailed.

One word. Ebay. I got my radar from there for like 40 bucks, saw the same one in walmart for 150ish... I have a Cobra not sure which model.

They don't work for me. I got 3 tickets in the first year. I relied too much on the radar instead of my instincts. I haven't had one in 3 or 4 years and no tickets. Go figure, but it might work for you. BTW, it went off on all three tickets. Much too late, but it went off.

The rule of thumb on radar detectors is truly go good or go home....... Escort, Bel, Valentine, all good detectors, the rest don't waste your money. www.speedzones.com is a great informative website.

I had a Whistler, not sure of the model, but it was one of the more expensive ones. My problem was the hills and country roads. But hey, maybe they are better now than they were a few years ago.

They do a good job of telling you when you're busted... I try to rely more on my instincts.. but the radar has saved my ass quite a few times... I will say it's saved my more "red light" tickets then speeding ones though... haha, it going off makes ya think twice about challenging the yellow light, haha.
