Yeah, I think I started one of the original threads when I first got my 2011. I didn't hear of any fixes though other than replacing the buttons. Extremely poor quality that is for sure.

Easiest fix - have the dealership replace the whole right side. It was covered under bumper to bumper.

My wife had hers replaced under warranty last week.

Get it done before 3-36 warranty expires.

If you do a search of the older threads, I think this problem has been addressed already.

If we applied this thinking to all the threads here, we could probably remove 99.5% of them.

The OP clearly titled what this thread was about so if this was a subject you were not interested in why did you bother to open it if it was going to put you out so badly?

My steering wheel buttons are fine but I'll admit I had read about some people having this issue while my car was still on order so I try to operate the button by the edges and not touch the printed surfaces. Over a year and half later they look like new and I drive the car almost every single day. It may help too that for volume I actually like the dial best anyway, seems to be easier to get it exactly where I want it the fastest.

My voice button and my hang-up button both chipped.

They were replaced under warranty.

The best option is to not use the buttons, then they will last.

Only my cruise + botton is chipped and all the others are fine. Its really hit or miss on which buttons wear as I use them all quite frequently. I need to get it fixed before I hit the 3-36, but I dread having to deal with the service department.

This is no problem for the service repair. They swap-out the buttons w/ replacement parts that are equally likely to fail in the same way.

They are all experienced in this warranty repair.

My 10-year old computer keyboard is holding-up just fine...

12000km on my car
Wow!!!! 75,000 miles in a year!

So, 8,760 hours / year and 60 miles / hour, that is 1,250 driving hours, or 14% of the year driving the car.

When do you find time to use the bathroom?

Steering Wheel Buttons

I had to replace buttons for cruise control on my '11. Dealer replaced, took 3 days for them to order and install. I agree though, the buttons are very cheaply done. Very thin coating. It's terrible when the only solution is not to use them. I'd be sure that is not what Ford intended.

I think the last time we discussed this we came to the conclusion that its all in the way one touches the buttons. Use the pad of the thumb, and there will be little to no wear. Use the fingernails, then get in good with your service adviser as you will be visiting him soon:yup:

I have twice as many kilometers......24 thousand.
I just had my buttons replaced under warranty, no problem. The new buttons look a little different. Computer keyboards are usually laser etched and not backlit either. Not saying the Mustangs couldn't be better though!

Didn't even consider this. Yeah if you ram your nail in there, shame on you. That will wear anything out basically.

That was not my experience.

The voice command and the hang-up buttons are the ones used most by me. The coating wore out on those, even though I made the effort to not touch it w/ my short fingernail.

I haven't had a problem with my Mustang (yet), but I noticed my wife's Focus is pretty bad...she is probably using her nails though. I'm going to see if my USAA extended warranty will cover the replacement of them.
