Im no electrical Genius but the Shaker Stereos volume would get louder when you went faster in your car, I guess this is so you could hear it better as you went faster. Anyways mabey something with this is causing your after market raido to shut off, it's trying to increase your volume and it shuts it off because it's a different stereo than the factory one. This is a off the wall guess, let us know if you figure it out. This is the stuff that happens when everything today is run off the cars PCM.
Good Luck. Im sure a stereo installation place could give you the cause, them dang things can be a pain hooking up, been there and done that.

elaborate on "some stereo system work"

do you have an amplifier, if so it could be the thermal protection shutting off or a bad alternator that isnt putting out the proper voltage causing the amplifiers voltage protection to trip.

Hmm

#1fordlover, that is called speed control volume, my aftermarket stereo is equipt to handle this input, although I have it turned off. I have ruled that out as a cause

Funkboy316, I added a Sony head unit, along with a 1000 watt amp and 2 12" subwoofers in a sealed enclosure. The amp is new an has a protective thermal/overload switch, along with 2 LEDs to tell me the status of the amp, and it has remained green during this issue.

i just re-read your first post...... are you saying your sony headunit completely powers off when a bass note hits?

if so youve got one of 2 issues,

1. bad ground
2. poor alternator output these cars dont have great alternators.

im leaning towards the ground but it could very well be alternator output, put a multimeter on it and see if the voltage drops when the stereo shuts off.

I'll do that tomorrow. If the ground isn't the problem, I guess I'll be getting a HO alternator. Thanks.

high output amp is like 350$........you can have your oem alternator rewound to a High output at an armateur place for around 100-150$

either way you have to upgrade the main power wire to a 4 gauge wire, the factory wire is too thin for higher output alternators.

Between my additional amp and the factory shaker system, I'm probably overdrawing the alternator.. I'll goto my local electric shop and have it rewound.

you need to check the output first, im not convinced its your alt. Im still going with bad ground.

alternator voltage is lower at idle than when moving. you said your problem was *only when accelerating* which means that most likely it is a bad ground and not the alternator. i would check the voltage before you start throwing money at it.
