Howdy all,

I just picked up a 2001 with a little over 100k miles.

There is a pretty loud rattle from the driver's side read when I take off from a dead stop. It sounds like metal on metal...

The rear spring sits on a plastic foot that is all torn up. Could this be the source of the noise?

...any ideas?

Thanks!

The noise could definitely be coming from faulty rear shocks which may be the result of faulty rear springs. I recently had to replace some suspension components in my car that aren't very related to your problem so I won't delve into those. Just keep in mind that the problem may be more than just one thing.

yeah... good point.

I don't know anything about the rear shocks other than it looks like they are there.

108,000 on factory shock units?

I have the same sound from my rear driver's side and i have narrowed it down to the muffler... my suspension is bad and have not looked into that but i first check my brakes

Shocks it is...

The rubber bushings on the upper end of the driver's side shock was shot. The top washer was smacking the inside wall of the trunk.

New shocks as what was there looked factory.

all better...
