Rattle...

Is anyone else experiencing rattles from the rear-end (perhaps muffler/exhaust)? I've been having issues for about a week now and after 3 trips to the dealer, they still haven't been able to diagnose it. It seems to happen after the car has run for a bit (after about 10 minutes of highway driving) and I guess they don't really want to drive it that long. I talked to my service advisor, who is really cool, and we'll go for a test drive on thursday but between now and then, has anyone had this issue? I know I'm not crazy, as many other people have heard what I'm hearing. It just has to run for a while before it comes out. And for the record, my 06 has exhibited the radio skipping, a dashboard rattle, and the gas tank filling problem. They have all been fixed but since they replaced the gas tank, this rattle has been there. I'm not picky either as there are a few more dashboard rattles (including a sound that I characterize as a busy hard disk drive) that I am not even concerned about or want fixed as I can live with those.

Iv'e seen the exhaust hanger up by the tranny mount "ground out" meaning the rubber bushing/insulator pushed out and caused a vibration/rattle. These types of rattles can resonate through the car and sound like there coming from a different area.
Thanks for your advice. I hope it's something simple like that because I really wouldn't want them tearing her apart. Or at least that's what the service advisor made it sound like. The interesting thing is that even with these little "annoyances" I still love my pony like I did the day I brought her home :laughlitt Unlike my other cars that drove me crazy and made me want to trade them in, I will never part with her. Thanks FoMoCo again for your advice.
Mine rattles at 1500 and 2300 rpm and it sounds like trunk lid is the source. Especially after tight right turn, like merging to a freeway from a ramp. Mostly on 2nd and 3rd gear, but happens on 5th too. Maybe since I'm on WOT on 3rd when catching speed before the merging lane..

Dude that's exactly what mine sounds like! At around 1000 to 2500 rpms, mostly on accel, i can hear a metallic rattle that sounds from the trunk area. But since my trunk is locked tight, I assume it's coming from the exhaust. Anyways, I'm gonna take it in tomorrow again and take the service advisor out on a ride, I'll let you guys know how that goes.
OK, here's what happened today at the dealer. They failed again to diagnose the rattle, and I think I know why they couldn't for the past 4 visits. THEY DRIVE LIKE MY GRANDMA!!! :sterb: I went on a test drive with a service advisor, with him driving. He eased over all bumps in the road and slowed to about 15 to go over the bumps. I proceeded to tell him that it happens more at like 35/45 and he gets it to 25 and asks me if the rattle is there. I felt like asking him if he has reached 45 yet, but I refrained. Then, we hit the freeway, and there he drives 55! I have not seen anyone drive 55 in San Diego. That must have been a first, we got cut off by girls in a Hyundai Accent and then an old woman in her Grand Marquis. I'm gonna go to another dealer and I am going to do the driving. Grr. :eyebulge: Plus, the gas tank filling problem came back. :sosad: I think it was after I had my first gas tank replaced when the rattles first came about. Anyways, I still love my pony even with her "issues". :smoke:

Honestly, I have so many rattles and noises in my convertible, I just turn up the stereo and they go away.

:laughlitt I hear a new one every time I drive it, but WTF … It aint a Benz :winks I just gun it and shake, rattle & roll.
I bought my '05 in July but only recently with the cooler weather have I started hearing dashboard rattles. Do you think that is coincidence or just the car settling?

What dealership did you go to?
Suggestion, take to Mossy Ford in PB. Talk to Jeff Wisdom (Assistant Service Manager), you can call him at (858) 490-4718. I had a problem with my saleen S/C hitting the firewall and they did a GREAT job fixing it. I was told by other people it sounds like the transmission (grinding noise) and then thought it was the S/C itself. Long story short installed headers, motor mount bolt not torque and motor needed to be position on subframe correctly ( my fault). Tell him I sent you and if you have any problems PM me and I can TRY to help you. I already was able to help SVT BOOST with install of his saleen S/C by Mossy.

My coupe has a really loud rattle on start-up with a cold car. You can hear it from four feet away as it idles down through about 1000 rpm. It sounds like a loose piece of tin. When the car warms up it goes away. I'm thinking some kind of heat shield near the mufflers. I've been too lazy to crawl under and check it out.
Thanks for all the advice :wavey I'll try Mossy Ford and make sure they hear it (just so I don't look like a lunatic)! If no luck there, I'm thinking of getting my exhaust done anyways (Magnaflow-- I think 3.5" is good, Borla at 4" is too big I think), so I'll swing it by JBA and see if they can figure it out and if it'll go away with new exhaust. I know my pony isn't a luxury car (I wouldn't want her any other way) and I can tolerate little rattles and squeaks but not loud banging noises that obviously means something is wrong. Oh well, I still love her though, no matter what sounds she makes, she still makes me smile ear to ear :laughlitt :kooky:
