rear diff bushing, does it need to be swapped out?

1812 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  skulls
i tried searching...didnt find much...

ive decided to suck it up and get a new uca and bracket...

through my research i see some people swap them out, but it seems like an absolute ***** to do...will i see any added benefits to it, or enough to justify the headache?

any insight would be awesome & much appreciated.

I just installed the uca and bracket. No more wheel hop. Try it first without changing the bushing it might add more nvh in the cabin.
The upper bushing on the diff cracks on just about every one of the cars that gets beaten on hard. I recommend checking them periodically.

FWIW, I have never gotten a call about our Diff Bushing Kit. I don't think we have ever seen a failure or damaged part.

It's not super easy, I will tell you that.

You have to keep the factory metal sleeve, but destroy/remove the soft factory inner bushing. Then pop ours in. Of course, due to the nature of the part, it isn't easy....it is a super tight fit. Lube works well though, as it does with any thing tight that needs to have a foreign object inserted into it.

That sounded weird, huh?

...then for installation, you need to grab the axle by it's haunches and pound it into submission.

...with a dead blow hammer and proper fitting drift.

here's a fun way to do this kind of thing from the old foxbody days:

Get yer torch out (propane will do, in a pinch), expose the bushing and burn that sucker til the bond between the steel and rubber liquifies, then pull that sucker out with any variety of hand tool you can get ahold of it with.

Messy but, fairly quick. Your neighbours will hate you. At least we only have to pull one, instead of two like on the Foxes.
