i have an 86 mustang and i just put new fluid in and i noticed i can pull the wheel outward and it moves maybe 1/4 inch on the left side. The right side can pull out about 1/2 inch. i don't think this is good. i can pull it out that far then push it back in again. it is like the axle is moving and i don't think it should. What should i do? I may not be explaining it well because i do not know much about rearends but would like to learn.
thanks in advance.

There is gonna be some play in it.Thats normal. How much, I cant remember what it Spec. The C-clip is what keeps the axle from coming out of the rear end. 4 things come to mind

1 worn out C-Clip
2 worn out spider gear and thrust washer
3 there is a different measurement from the C-clip grove to the end of the axle shaft
4 worn spyder gear shaft
