I seen on here once before the s/n codes to tell you which rear end gears came in you car from the factory. i was wondering if anybody knows where this thread is or if they might know what the codes are. i have a 93 gt i do know its the 8.8 just not sure what gear set it has in it?

there should be a tag bolted onto the rear and cover that tells you what gears you have
autos came with 3.08:1 and standards came with 2.73:1. there shld be a tag on one of the diff cover bolts that will have a long list of numbers. it will say 8.8 and gear ratio somewhere on the tag.
mines an auto and it came with a 2.73
Look at the door tag. Is it a letter or number where there's the AX. Mine is a 92, the letter is M it a 2:73 limited slip.
Let me know what yours says
There are two ways to figure out the original ratio. Both have already been mentioned.

Vehicle Certification Label ("door tag/sticker")
AX - E = 3.27:1 with Traction-Lok differential
AX - M = 2.73:1 with Traction-Lok differential
AX - Z = 3.08:1 with Traction-Lok differential

Axle Tag
2L73 = 2.73:1 with Traction-Lok differential
3L08 = 3.08:1 with Traction-Lok differential
3L27 = 3.27:1 with Traction-Lok differential

The "L" may be "LS" or "SL" but it still means the same thing. You may not be able to see the first number because it's beneath the bolt.

The only year the AOD could come with the 3.08:1 ratio was '87, and that ratio was optional over the standard 2.73:1 ratio. Every year after that the 3.27:1 ratio was optional for the AOD.

rear axle ratios w/ AOD transmission (AOD = '84-'93)
2.73:1 = standard '87-'93
3.08:1 = optional '87
3.27:1 = standard '84-'86*, optional '88-'93

*No factory optional ratios available '84-'86.
yea i found the thread last night with the codes but had to go to work and didnt have time to post that i had found it. but i have the 3.27 with limited slip. thanks guys for helping.
