when rebuilding an engine should I get a whole new block or just re use my block?
Let's keep the **** talking to a minimum of possible, im aware I'm not the most knowledgeable, that's why I'm here asking and trying to learn.
All positive feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

if you have the block checked and is still good I would reuse it. imo
I have read and heard that a used block is considered "seasoned" and is more desirable than new. I must google that to find out more.
Old is better/stronger than new

If you have a block built before 1973--seasoned, sonic tested--it's better--unless its built in Mexico; then it's even better--Blueprint makes a good seasoned 5.0 with warranty and fits nicely in a 1965--Good choice if you want to save a number's matching engine--Put it in one of my K-codes with much more low to mid torque and 70 more ft pds, and 100 more horse without Forced induction. Got low 12's in quarter mile

Hello. :) :welcome

Easy there, amigo. We're all friends here. :gringreen The only problem you might encounter would be if the block has to be bored out more than about .020 over standard bore. It will have a tendency to run hot. If it needs to be punched out more than that, you should have it sleeved back to standard bore. :)

Hi,
First post here, I see. Welcome to a great Ford powered site.
Second, you must have come from an abusive site to open with those words.
Third, you'll not find a better bunch of courteous, knowledgeable guys supporting you and many others who seek help here.
There is no trash talking here and if it does occur, it's more like light hearted banter. No naughty words or smear campaigns are needed or tolerated.
Anyway, I'm a little more daring than Veronica, regarding the "boring-out" comment. Since I'm still running my OEM bloc from May of 1964. It's currently bored out to .040 and has been running strong for 5+ years on the current build without any heating issues and makes some serious RWHP. I do believe, going any larger is dicey as these blocks have thin walls and sleeving should be considered.
Yes, a seasoned block is much preferred and if build-able, the best way to go.
Happy trails.....

Hello and Welcome!

I would also suggest rebuilding your current engine, if possible, especially if the block is original. If the cylinders required boring past .040", i would have them sleeved as well and start with a stock setup.

Good Luck!
Don't worry, you'll generally find good, helpful people here.

I agree that your original block is preferred, IF it's in good shape. To determine that you should have it sonic tested, as Coolbrz suggests... Here's some information about that process (and why it's a good idea...)
