Don't know if this should be tech thread as its not really a 'how to' question. I am just curious if any of you have had a shop rebuild your engine, or transmission and what the job cost you?

Cuz I am thinking of picking up a engine kit at some point and want to know if I just have them install it, try to do it myself (Oh god) , or have them rebuild the engine, and use the kit parts as they go along, the first is obviously middle of the road cost, with little 'risk' the second is cheap but WTF josh blows up his engine risk, and the third seems to add years to life and get the parts in...but at what cost?

Same with a trans and shift kit....

Lets hear your stories

I spent about $1100 on all the machining/parts/labor/gaskets to rebuild my engine, I put everything together.

I have $500 into my AOD for labor/rebuild/shift kit.

The cost is related to the components you select, like forged or cast pistons... H beam or I beam rods... moly face or standard rings...
Since I'm an engine builder, I haven't ever had an engine built for me but I have had to have automatic transmissions done and rear ends done (no facilities for me to do it) for me.

Same for the transmission, there's stock internals and then the high performance stuff. Red Alto clutches are superior in every way to the stock parts, but they cost more.
