I am having to do the same thing.I ordered the top material, but am having someone else put it on.Getting it replaced came out cheaper that way.I got a discussion started at work about it and they all said that if they had not done one before don't.I'm sure other people have their opinions to.That's just how I decided to get mine done.

On the older convertibles, it was far easier to replace the top yourself. Today, most convertibles now have more complicated hardware and have headliners. I personally would have a shop (or the dealer) who specializes in convertible repair to do the work. Then if anything goes wrong, you have someone to hold accountable for it. For it is my guess you wont find anything wrong until it rains (or you wash your car), and that is a real bad time to find out there is something wrong with the installation.

i plan on replacing my top at approx 10 years of life since my mustang sleeps outside in the elements. I cover her when i can but i can't do it as much as i would like to.

A lot of people know how to wind a watch, but when it comes to replacing one of those little wheels, take it to a watchmaker.
Apparently VintageV8 doesn't think you should perform the convertible top replacement yourself, but he does think you should watch.

replacing 2005 mustang convertible top

Hi, according to this forum TSB 06-19-5 if you are still under warranty CHECK the top for wear holes. I did this to mine last week and Ford will replace mine at no charge. I have a 2006 convertible. So please check it out before you buy.:bigthumbsup
