Ricers From A Roll

I would like to start by saying that street racing is a terrible idea and I shouldn't have done it but I did and it was fun.

So two ricers lined up on the highway in front of me. Honda something with a front mount innercooler and an open no cat exhaust vs a recent Subaru WRX that was also modified loud, lots of gauge pods, fins on the rear diff. Both seemed to be cat free because they stunk.

I was guessing the WRX was going to walk the Honda but they ended up pretty close with the Honda edging the WRX a little. Like watching two retards fist fight watching two slow ass ricers roll it out on the highway.

My 5.0 caught up to them like they left their ebrakes on. They were moderately quick from 50 to 100mph but from 100-110 was painful and slow. I was at partial throttle and accelerating easily with them. If there was a third lane I would have freight trained right past those two little piss ants.

We caught up to traffic so I resumed driving responsibly while both of them did the standard ricer fly-by weaving in and out of traffic like morons.

Did I mention that I had a bike and bike rack on my Mustang? That little aerodynamic handicap had just about zero effect in effortlessly catching those two.

its a honda vs a 5.0 what did you expect :p
My old 2006 STi pulled pretty good right up to 155, which is where it felt like the hood was going to fly off. It was modded pretty good, but on the stock turbo. It put 400 awtq to the pavement...yet only 300 awhp. Pulled like a freight train though.
Two very different types of vehicles going at it. If you were going head to head with say a new SRT8 & a newer ZR1 joined the game, he/she would have made you the pizz ant.:yup:
Yep...sometimes you are the windshield, sometimes you are the bug:winks

Cool story though:yup:
would be interesting the sti vs you from the dig... prob kill you off the line but then you would have caught up
Was driving down the road with my bro in my 08 GT/CS. Caught up to an 11-12 GT in the right lane; modded up like nobody's business and loud as hell. He rev'd us and I dropped it into third and mashed the gas. So did he. It was over in 2 seconds. I pulled off quick knowing from the get go I had already lost. Just wish I had the cash for such an amazing car.

Sorry (actually, I'm not) but a modified WRX, even if it's not an STi, is not a piss ant. It's a well balanced and capable machine that naws the road with shark jaw ferocity; it is more about the driving experience than all out numbers. It's cheap, practical, fast, comfortable (for the most part) and has lots of potential.

Its ehh... I was looking at the wrx vs my v6.
PP v6 was 4k cheaper sticker and did so much better on gas plus it takes regular compared to primium for the wrx. I think its got reliability on us tho and of course snow it will trash us. But in terms of speed a v6 with some mods will keep up with an sti and a base gt with 3-4k in suspension will trash an sti just not in snow

Really is there that many ******** on here? When I had my S2000 I had everyone in mustangs camaros and everthing in between try to provoke a race. Always trying to pick on the guy with the little 4 cylinder. Ever ride in an s2k with just under 500 rwhp? It's called race over. If you have enough funds available you can make anything fast and I always love when the little guy whoops ass on just about everything else.

The WRX and STI are great cars as well they move pretty good.

I've seen all makes of drivers weave in and out of traffic for a "race." No thanks. If it isn't clear for all participants, I won't go. Seen plenty of domestics do it too.

The problem is that the V8 Mustangs have been so underwhelming for so long that when they went to the new 5.0, it is literally the fastest car a lot of people have ever been in. And in their eyes, that make it "unbeatable". 420 hp is a decent about of hp, but it is in a ~3600 pound car. Ever ride in a 400 awhp Evo? Or an old LS1 Fbod with a cam? Or any tuner car making big hp? They exist and they are every bit as fast as the new 5.0's and then some. My old C6 Z06 would have lit up my Mustang at ANY speed. Christ, I had never been to a strip before in my life and I managed an 11.7 at 123 in my very first pass.

To each their own, but anyone who pigeonholes themselves into one make or model of car is going to miss out on a lot of cool rides in their lifetime. I'm glad I owned a tuned STi. And I'm glad I owned a <gasp> Chevy Corvette. I'd also take a Challenger, the new Viper, and an Audi S4. But I am not a true Mustang Man, right? :winks

Life is too short for one type of beer or woman. I feel the same about cars.

I have rode in or driven many of the cars you have listed and many others for that matter. I like you am not someone who has any loyalty to one make or model, hell there are so many great cars out there period. I don't want miss out on all the cool rides out there.

I'm definitely not a mustang guy I'm an enthusiast of many different vehicles in fact this is my first american car it's far from perfect but for the money it's a lot of car and a lot of fun.:yup:

I also appreciate all differnet types and styles of car. That said, I think every man should own a muscle car at least once in their life.
Careful with those turbo 4's... they are light and can make alot of power especially the AWD cars. That said, I think right now the best dollar to power ratio on the market is the 11-13 GT's right now which is why I bought mine. I'm somewhat embarrased to say I've been in and driven a few different types of ricers (STI, Evo, etc) and those cars are impressive.

My buddy owned a WRX stage 2 heavily modified. That thing was an awesome car. I felt like it pulled way harder than my car, (which is also pretty heavily modified for being just NA). Especially through 2nd when the turbo kicked in. But there is something to be said about feel of your pants hp. From a roll out of 20mph or so, he "never stood a chance, I guess 100hp in a heavier car makes a difference" in his words. It was over before I hit 50mph. Even though I swear his car pulls harder, I just don't feel that sinking into the seat feeling with mine.

But I did like even in the pouring rain we could not make his tires slip from a stop. That was pure sex to launch so hard an pull away from everyone else that quickly. 4wd is amazing in little cars.

The issue I have with those crazy fast turbo 4's. Is they will probably blow up in about a year. I think every buddy of mine with those silly fast imports didn't make it more than a few months with out something major breaking. At least we know our V8's can withstand a lot of abuse. I'm pretty sure mine will make it 10 years making 100hp/tq more than it was designed too.

Seat of the pants is something really worth pointing out here.

The perception of speed is a bit muted in these cars compared to others. I don't know if you consider that a good thing or a bad one.

I recall several times when I felt like I wasn't going that fast until I looked down at the speedo and "ho lee crap."
I've had passenger notice the same thing. Its way too easy to do 90-100 and not have you or your passenger realize it.
95 feels a lot like 70.

No need to be embarrased give credit where its due.

You are correct about the HP per dollar performance the Mustang gives it is very hard to beat especially if you bought one when Ford was/is offering big incentives. I only paid $27595.00 before taxes and registration, car stickered for $36595.00.:racer:
