Does anyone happen to have any pictures or descriptions of how they modded their stock valve covers to clear roller rocker arms?

Only one area needs to be addressed, the
oil baffle on the passenger side cover.

I took the baffle off. Should I do any grinding to the boss that it bolts onto or will they clear that? Forgot to mention that I got the pedestal style 1.6 proforms(hoping that their quality has improved somewhere in the last ten years since last I tried them).
First off, there are 2 different types of valve covers for the 87-93 years. Look inside the valve cover and it will have a small stamp of the year of the valve cover. The 87-90 (could be 87-91, I can't remember) valve covers have reinforcing posts around the inside the cover. Some of those will have to be ground a little bit to clear the rockers. For the 91-93 (could be 92-93), all you have to do is remove the baffle plate, grind down the baffle wall in a specific place and put the baffle plate back on. If you don't use a baffle or do something to prevent oil from splashing up the filler spout, you might and probably will get oil up the breather into the throttle body and intake. I was searching for pics but haven't found any. I'll still look around though.

Crap. Yeah, mine have those posts you're talking about.
Yea, before I changed heads with roller rockers, I bought some valve covers and had them powder coated. Looked awesome. When I installed the heads and rockers is when I found out about the difference. My old valve covers (from my '93) didn't have the posts, so I used those. You'll just have to figure out which supports to shave!

After grinding down the baffle wall a bit, I hammered the baffle to fit, then screwed it back in. The only drawback to keeping the baffle on there is it takes a while for the oil to filter down past the baffle when adding oil because the baffle is closer to the valve cover and blocks it more from draining into the head. But, it works!
Never heard of 1.6 pedestal rockers being a problem...only 1.7's. You sure they don't clear?
Yup, my #1 intake rocker (1.6 Scorpion) hit the baffle.
Those are aftermarket heads with stud mounted rockers not pedestal. Some may say what's the difference but I'm just saying I haven't heard of any 1.6 pedestal mounted rockers ever being an issue. I could be wrong though.
I think what I'm going to go ahead and do, is install the rockers and just lay the covers on minus the gasket. Then, I'll bar the engine over and see if anything touches something it shouldn't. It'll have to wait for the weekend of course; work sucks. :heha:

Oops, sorry. For some reason, I didn't read the "Pedestal" part!! DOH!

...and Mhuggler, that's what I did. Just put the VC on without the gasket and altered where it hit.
Ok. After installing the rockers and setting the valve covers on, I found out I'm buying some new valve covers! It's not even close. Those reinforcing posts in all four corners of both valve covers would need ground off and there's no way I'll be able to get oil in the engine if I move the baffle up high enough to clear the rocker arms. This is with proform 1.6 pedestal mount rockers inside '87 valve covers for anyone's future reference. Thanks for everyone's help anyway.
