Rolling Stock Mods

Ok, over the past year we have seen many threads on tires, rims etc.
I personally enjoy my stock 17" Bullits and think they rock for stock. That said, my rubber is fast becomming slicks and I will go with Nittos up next. Given that, I may as well look seriously at rims to give me some more "uniqueness" of the car.
I looked at the Tire Rack and Discount Tires websites many months ago and was like, nothin really jumped out at me. I been looking lately it is shocking at what the aftermarket is now offering us.

I have my eye on 18" chrome 5 spokes like Cobra R's or Weld or Konigs wrapped in Nitto 555 Extreme ZR's. I want "deep dish" rears with wide rubber and no "deep effect" up front with smaller than rear rubber. In other words, a drag looking muscle car set up with cornering low profile street tires (without use of spacers).

Here is what I would like this thread to offer.

1.What rims and tire combo did you do and why, and provide pictures and sizes.
2.Any alternate you have you're eye on comming up for Xmas time. I am thinking on giving myself a Xmas gift of new rolling stock.
3. What pros and cons to the handling, launch, and noise (wider tire) did you notice from stock? (Obviously, I am very aware of drag tire details but, I want the car to have a look/ cornering over drag/ launch function for my street application). For that matter how much worse are the Nittos (low profile) in launch over the stock Pirelli's?
4. Any other tire worth considering? I know a few of you have Toyo's, Falkens and BFG. Please advise on your thoughts as well.
5. I know the '06 option has a change in tune of suspension slightly for the 18" setup, if we have 17" stock tune what is the negative effect of the 18" rim mod? I know it is slight but, any body with 18" or up have issues? thump_rrr has the suspension thread on lockdown and I don't want this to become a suspension thread, only a brief note of issue to stock '05 system unsprung mass issues.
6. What is widest tire width on back that will fit without "tubbing" and spacers, lol. Thinnest up front ( I know not too thin to keep my cornering up)?

I hope this will become an active thread to give all your input for us looking at mods of wheels and those just getting the '06's and need advice as well.
Thanks everyone.

lmfao. Hah. Yeah, its real simple, if you search this forum on wheels you get 100+ posts and many of them have a promise to post pictures of their new mods which many never did.
I am trying to make an updated consolidated wheel thread but, I guess it's back to throttle body spacers.
hey R3dF1r3.....if you have a discount tire near you....check out the catalogs they have in house. they sell almost every kind of wheel made. much more then their web site shows.

right now im running 17 X 9 "68" hotwheels i got from discount tire. love the wheels. but they're polished and i wish now i had gotten chrome. i just read that Cragar has just come out with the "SS" for our cars. so next spring im planning to go with the "old school" look and install the Cragars in 18 X 9. im thinking of going with the Michelin Pilots right now. heard some good things about them. but who knows......thats could change.

Yes, I have used Discount Tires for 2 sets of tires for my Lariat Black F-150, in fact both F-150's I have owned. Further I just put Plus 1 Konig's with low profile rubber on my Nissan NX2000 for running around, they look very similar to kj_cinci's bad mofos on his pony except split spoke. I have been to almost every website made on wheels for 2005 Pony.

This thread is intended for guests to post pix and share tech specs on what they are rolling with atm.
Pls expand on your polish vs chrome concern and pls post some pix.
Cragers are old school ownij fo sho. Can't go wrong there.
Redfire, the stock tires suck... I thought they were good but didn't have anything to compare them too.... Now that I do they suck!!!

I have the 1995 Cobra R rims and mine are black, I got the 17x10.5 for the rear and 17x9 for the front, Now for tires, I was recommended some cheap tires actually and I figure what the hell they look good. I got the Riken Raptor ZR's and they are actually awesome!!! Very cheap and very good for me so far!!! half the price of yokohama's. I have had no issues with rubbing or anything, and I can take corners like crazy!!!! I do believe I have some pictures up on my profile of them. Good luck with the deep dish, mine barely poke out now and they aren't deep dish at all...
sorry here is a pic, I haven't uploaded them

Your mods sound nasty, S/C + NOS. Too nice.
Can you get us another shot of your wheels I like the Cobra R's I just thought the 18's would be funner but, I would like to see your setup.
Hey all,
I just got an e-mail from Cragar. They're coming out w/ new wheels for the 05-06 stangs Dec.15th

LOL, Fanblade on roids. I'm going w/ the old style ss Cragar, Just like I had on my 1st car. No idea on rubber though. I don't like the looks of the KDW or whatever tread. Reminds me of my old Jeep CJ7 tires.
Whatever happened to that blonde that f-up her fancy Boyd Coddington rims? No idea why that just popped into my head

Crager was THE wheel back in the day. Good luck.
I'm glad I didn't jump on those cragars on ebay … there phony after all.
Here's a pic of a car at the San Diego Auto show with 18x9 and 18x10 deep dish Welds on it.

I just don't like the front tire looking like a rubber band and the rear looking out of whack. I see the front rotors are larger than the rear. Maybe I've been at the rink too long today and the Zamboni fumes got me. :tongue

It looks like it has been lowered about 2 inches.
Well how about the RoboCop look - all carbon fiber and black primer :happyhapp

Too much pimp my ride or uncle bens. That's like me buying a Merritt boat and turning it into a Viking.
