RPM high between shifts

781 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Ryan2009
I have a 2002 3.8L 5 spd and the engine RPM will stay hi between shifts. I have cleaned the intake TB and replaced the IAC. I removed the IAC control wire and drove the car and it did not do this. Yes it did want to stall. The idle is ok and cold start is good. I would like to test the TPS at idle is the idle voltage still .5 to 1V? for this year? Thanks for the help

try cleaning the MAF.
I think its normal for them to stay elevated between shifts. I know mine takes a little bit before the rpm's drop between gears.

I would say if there is no CEL, and it drives fine otherwise to leave it be.

mine used to do that every now and then, and with the A/C on it would be real bad. since i installed my aluminum flywheel it doesnt do it anymore...:D
Thanks guys for the help. The MAF is cleaned, the stop idle is set at 500RPM w/IAC off. And she still will stay high like 1st to second gear 1500 to 2500RPM and very slowly come back down. P.S we checked for vac leaks too.
