I purchased a new Series VI S/C with the 475 upgrade a few months back and when I received it there was a lot of parts missing. I phoned the dealer where I bought it and they screwed me around for almost a month before I finally had to threaten legal action, which finally made them get off their ass and get me the parts (which still delayed me for another 3 weeks waiting for them to be delivered). One of the parts I still felt I never had, was the pulley for the 475 kit. They assured me it was the right one and gave me a number that should have been on the 475 pulley....sure enough it was the same number.

After finally getting everything installed, getting a custom tune and getting some decent weather, I had it on the dyno last night to check my numbers and see which parameters might need to be tweeked.

I was a little dissapointed with the numbers. I pulled 405 RWHP and 394 ft/lbs. Good numbers, but not quite what I was expecting considering my other mods along with the S/C. This led me to believe that I certainly never had the right pulley.

My question is for anyone else who's running this S/C. What part# should be on my pulley for the 475? What size is the pulley supposed to be? In my searches on the net, I've noticed a few companies posting different sizes when advertising the 475 kit. One company is saying 3.87", another is saying 3.40" and another is saying 2.875". I know the 550 kit is supposed to have a 3.20" pulley, so obviously the 475 shouldn't be a 2.875"

Thanks,

Paul

Not sure what pulley you should have, but if you call Jim III at JDM, he'll be able to tell you for sure. JDM Engineering.

My understanding is the 475 rating is at the block and through the drive line to lose 15% to 20%.

On my car I have the 3.40 = 9.5 psi pulley and on a safe tune making 420rwhp/390tq to the wheels. So it looks like your numbers are correct, I would look at getting a better tune for the car, you can still get a little more power out of it and still be safe on the motor.
My motor is still stock on the inside. Once I get it rebuilt, then I can get up around the 475hp+/- area.

With the Saleen 475 kit and Saleen Canned tune I was at 399 at the wheels. Which was were it should have been per JDM. Sounds like you are fine.

Yes it has. It took about 5 trips to the tuner over the last 20 months. I learned a lot, spent a lot, have a lot more to learn. The rwhp was about 555 for a while I am back down to 510 -515 and it will stay there. Looking at rims and tires still have not made up my mind yet. If I get to Carlisle at Ford week I may pull the trigger there if I find something I like.

I know the 475 rating is at the flywheel and my tune was provided by Tecmotion so I know I have a good tune. I assumed that the pulley I should have is the 3.40 considering that Saleen Canada told me the pulley for the 435 kit is 3.87

Along with the tune and the S/C, I also have a WMS CAI with 95 mm mass air, long tube headers, and a hi-flow catted x-pipe. I was expecting my numbers to be closer to 420-430.

I'm going to order up the 3.40 pulley and get it back on the dyno next week.

Thanks for the help.

When you get the 3.40 pulley, you be doing a lot better on HP rating. If you don't have a rebuilt motor, be very careful on much power you add. The motor will only last if you have a good tuner that knows what he's doing. My tuner can get more HP from my motor, but he won't do it till I get the motor rebuilt. I can't afford my motor to blow right now, so It'll for now.
Some people will say you can run a lot more HP even with the motor not being rebuilt. I know a person on another forum doing about 500hp with a stock motor. Depends on the tuner to make things run right and only time will tell.
Best of luck to you, let us know how it goes.

Thanks Ed for the info. I'm planning on strengthening the internals over next winter. My tuner said he would provide me with a safe tune for now. Are you still using the stock fuel pump? The guys at Saleen Canada recommended that I get a twin fuel pump or a second inline fuel pump.

I have the GT500 fuel pump. You'll want to get something to supply more fuel to the motor. I was maxing mine out, but after the new pump, I was then getting too much. My tuner (Adam with ST Motorsports) made every work with the new pump. You don't want your more to run lean and then blow up.
I know a guy that has the GT500 fuel pumps and was running low on gas, that when he went WOT, he blew the motor. So when I get down to 1/4, I make sure I fill up with gas.
