Thanks, was getting pissed on the bottom bolt, once I got it out I didn't realy pay attention til after I had the old one in my hand.

Yup, spring towards the intake.

Its been a while since I changed mine, but I want to say it only fits with the Spring in and the Thermostat itself kinda locks into the Elbow.

GL with the thermo change..be careful with the elbow bolts....mine snapped off into the manifold.
