Screamin' Demon Coil on my V6

I just installed a Screamin' Demon coil on my V6. For those of you who don't know, it sends a much higher voltage to the spark plugs to cause a hotter spark in order to more of the fuel injected into the cylinders.

My question is this: When I installed the coil on my car, I noticed it was idling at a much lower RPM, about 100 RPM lower than before. I expected it to do something along these lines, but the car was almost having issues staying alive and not dying. It didn't die, but it was wanting to. When I eventually add the 8.5mm MSD wires, will I still have this issue?

I am planning on getting a Bama tuner, therefore it should fix any issues I have with the air/fuel ratio and hopefully take into consideration the hotter spark. Will this really happen though? If I Bama tune the mustang with this new ignition components, will I still it still want to die on me while idling?

I also highly recommend this coil. It is amazing, easy install, not a major performance upgrade, but it instantly made the car sound meaner according to my father, who was with me after install. I love it!!!

You need to regap your plugs (wider) to see any benefit (if you see any benefit) from this.

EDIT -

Also, this shouldnt change the idle. How does the car perform off idle? Sure it's not missing?

They are a paperweight unless your OEM coil is faulty.

i agree, it shouldnt change idle. if anything it made my car run smoother at all rpm`s, a little quicker throttle response too. that was before i had any other mods( except for dual exhaust). if you didnt change your wires, they might be shot. should have got the package deal with the livewires and saved some money. they are 8.5mm wires with a sleeve over them ( makes them 10mm) ive been running them for a few years dd and its always run great, through alot of modding too.

( thats on the 05 though, now has 93k)

I'll check my gaps, but I'm very sure I'm not missing. I've had that problem before. I prob just need to re-gap the plugs. Thanks guys. And for the record, this isn't a paperweight. I love this part. Match is with 8.5mm wires and it'll really help.

Adding this coil will not add performance of any kind. The stock ignition system is more than strong enough. Unless you are running really high RPM's (far over stock redline) or a very high horsepower application, there is no benefit what-so-ever to adding these coils.

PS: Don't gap the plugs wider, this will cause more problems and not fix anything.

Shenanigans. Assuming the new coil pack isn't defective, a wider plug gap is need to take advantage of the 'hotter spark'. If you're going to buy into the 'hotter coil pack' idea, might as well go all the way with it :hihi:

All that is going to do is burn off the electrodes faster.

You should be calling shenanigans on the people who market this crap saying it will do anything but lighten your wallet. This is possible the least effective mod to do to a stock engine for the least gains. Money wasted.

Even better:

High horsepower applications use the OEM coil , or OEM coil + DIS-4 , the SD coil is nice as a paper weight, or you can buy 2 and use them as book ends.

1. There has been major issues with this coilpack on V6 cars. Most of it idle problems.
2. A tuner will not compensate for lack of spark, or inconsistent spark.
3. A/F ratio cannot be determined by a mail order tune. It needs to be dynoed.
4. I would not recommend it to any of our folks on this forum.
5. Opening up plug gap is the wrong direction to go.(hint,hint)

I have a brand new one sitting around the back of the Jeep. It will never see any time in my cars. In fact, if someone wants it, they can have it for $25.00+ the ride. But I will not be held responsible for it if your car does what was mentioned above......
