Hi All, Ive just installed a JLT II intake with an SCT X-3 tuner. First I used the pre loaded tune that came with the tuner. After driving around for a while I got an engine warning light appear. The warning said that the engine idle speed was "lower than expected".
I tried changing the idle speed for both Neutral and Drive (via tuner menu) which didnt seem to have a result.

I have also just received a custom tune from Bamachips. This too has resulted in the same code. Douglas from Bama says he will look into it from his end, but im thinking becasue its happened with both Custom and pre loaded tunes, its something with my car.

The only other mod ive got is a cat back exhaust. I could understand if the preset tune threw the message, as it didnt know about the exhaust, but the bamachips tune should take all of the mods into consideration.

Any ideas? its ticking over at about 500rpm

Wow,I had that same code come up on my Diablo and same idle issue it even dipped at idle,I guess its not tuner specific like I thought.Let me know if you get it figured out I'm curious as to what is the cause.

It could be your SCT because I had your exact same set up at one point and never received a check code; also, the idle speed adjusted when I changed it via the menu.

I'd check with SCT- they're pretty helpful with this kind of thing.

Yeah, I've mailed them but they havent got back to me yet. Ive updated the firmware on the SCT and they are new tunes, so i hope its not something else wrong that the software update wouldnt fix.

Yeah, i'm getting a dip too. Ive checked the JLT intake and everyting seems fine. I am wondering if its something to do with the MAF !?!

Ya I tightened everything to almost too tight, cleaned MAF sensor and all and it still was a pain in my neck.I wonder if there is a simple fix, like I said if you figure it out let me know because I had same issues.I hope you get it running smooth,I'm holding out on another tuner till I know for sure how to alleviate the idle issue.

Have you cleaned the throttle body?

Ya I used a bunch of throttle body cleaner and it was sparkling clean and I still had issues.I hope someone can solve this issue and pin point what causes it.
Douglas at Bamachips has now got back to me saying the same thing... Hes says the only experience hes had with idle or stalling is a dirty throttle body.
does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning? what to clean with etc.
Also, any recommendations for upgrades?

I too am having this issue, I run a CL racer and brenspeed tunes, install last weekend, in the 87 tune I first installed I would press the clutch in coming to a stop and the idle drops below 500 and stalls nearly every time, I then put the 93 tune in and it too drops when stopping at idle but catches itself before stalling..havnt tried the third tune yet..it's a new toy, I didnt realize that idle speed was one of the parameters that was adjustable for the end user, mine is an Xcal 2 by the way..guess I should contact the guys at Bren..

There's an idle dashpot adjustment that they'll need to make. It should be a fairly easy fix. If that doesn't do it, I would suspect a TPS voltage problem.

Could it be when they are setting up the tune they are not "saving" there option on the cold air unit. I had an issue with mine last week, I was changing the tune and forgot to push cancel to save the JLT for the cold air. Ran like crap, barly started up. I made it home and then a code showed up. Did a quick reflash and no more problem.

On the X3, yes but not on the Xcal2.

can you explain the adjustment stl? I loaded my 91 tune and it too wants to stall in gear at idle, I pop it into nuetral (5 speed) and it recovers to smooth idle..thx

It's an adjustment in the SCT Advantage III software. Not something that you can resolve with the tuner. When was the last time you cleaned your MAF and throttlebody?

Get some CRC MAF cleaner or go to an electronics store and get some TechSpray Blue Shower II, Blue Shower G3 cleaner or MG Chemical Super Wash.
